It definitely sounds better when the beat is at the same rate as the lower rhythm and the rhythms are only one frequency apart.

This would be amazing for a visual novel. Each character gets their own rhythm and they combine when there’s multiple characters on screen.

This is perhaps the most illustrative video I've seen on polyrhythms, it helps a lot when it plays along with a beat

It's interesting how the experience of the 'melody parts' changes dramatically depending on the 'rhythm parts'.

1:20 Okay, I didn’t expect the 4+5 x5 beat to slap quite that hard.

this is actually quite genius! The way that the added percussion makes you actually focus on a single rhythm while the other one supports it, really makes you understand how theyre supposed to sound!

Personally I liked the 4/4 drums over the 3:4:5 polyrhythm.

something about the wholesome translation of mathematics into this artistic, carefree form makes me very happy deep down just watching. thanks for making this

2 + 3 and 4 + 3 are my favorites.

2 + 3 sounds like something you would hear in a visual novel

4 + 3 sounds like something you’d hear in an action movie trailer

I'd love to see a version where the shapes don't separate side by side - the overlay was a really cool and easy to follow visual to see where the beats coincide.

The first sequence of 2:3 through 4:5 is the same as it happens in the intro of "Fanfare for Effective Freedom" by Horse Lords, much recommended listen if you're into polyrhythms and odd meters.

0:38 kinda sounds like a bass for aesthetic music
1:34 that one part

I love how adding the beat and then moving it from the fewer subdivisions to greater subdivisions doesn't actually change the speed of the beat, but certainly feels like it does.

I love how you correlated the pitches to their degree in the harmonic series!

I just saw one of these that just kept increasing, never actually becoming music and I thought this was gonna be the same. When it started adding rhythms I was pleasantly surprised and I actually got excited when the beats showed up.

i was so confused on what "poly rhythms" actually was, and this video explained it, without words, and perfectly well for someone who doesn't understand music theory AT ALL. i actually understand it! thank you!!

this just shows how easy it is to make music with literally anything
