Yes, this video has everything to do with football, and how the San Francisco 49ers influenced the 1984 election in one of the dumbest ways possible

The 1984 presidential election between Ronald Reagan and Walter Mondale was an absolute landslide, and it was a landslide in the locker room of the San Francisco 49ers. And when Mondale's campaign found out about this, they decided to do, quite possibly, the dumbest thing imaginable

Just here to say that Roger Craig belongs in the Hall of Fame. It's embarrassing for the league and the Hall that he's not in. The dude was the first 1000/1000 rushing/receiving player ever and was a huge component of those 80s 49er teams.

The 1984 49ers have a case for being the greatest team of all time. That team or maybe the 1989 Niners. Just pure dominance that could nt be stopped, nobody had an answer for them on either side of the ball. The defense was also dominant but gets overshadowed by the greatness that was the 49ers offense led by Golden Joe Montana.

In other words walter mondale woild have been better just spiking the ball into the ground on every play?

In 1984, the Raiders had 3 Lombardi's and were clearly the best overall team of the Super Bowl era, with a win percentage above even the Cowboys. Calling the 49ers losers was untrue, but putting the Raiders above them wasn't much of a reach.

Only one AFC team won a Super Bowl in the ‘80s, and that team won it twice. The Raiders. ‘80 and ‘83. The NFC was dominant in the ‘80s.

In 1996, when Bob Dole was campaigning in Los Angeles, Hideo Nomo had just pitched a no hitter for the Dodgers. Dole said "I'm gonna be like Nomo of the Brooklyn Dodgers and throw a no hitter." 😂

That 1984 election was such a landslide, the one state Walter Mondale did carry, Minnesota -- his home state, no less -- he won by less than 4, 000 votes. (Mondale did also carry DC, but it's simply beyond the realm of possibility for a Republican to win there -- the most competitive election in DC was 1972, where the Democrat won 78-22. And that's the MOST competitive) The next most competitive state was Massachusetts, where Mondale lost by 70, 000 votes.

Great video. I loved Reagan, and I have thought about 80 and 84 a lot as far as how one candidate carried so much of the country. That is not even conceivable now when it really comes down to a few states that are actually in play.

I was super young in ’84, but even I kmow that asking any American citizen the question of Reagan vs. Mondale is a foregone conclusion. It would be like if The Coca-Cola Corporation conducted a poll in the summer of 1985, when their consumers were being VERY vocal, “Coke Classic or New Coke?”.

I wondered if you were expanding the scope of your channel from sports to politics. But yes, there's a reason Mondale lost so badly in 1984, even if he did brilliantly tie Gary Hart up in knots during that Democrat debate by quoting the then-viral "Where's the Beef?" line...
