The mentor does get something. It's called social clout, prestige and a legacy. The problem with mentorship is that it's a thing you do once you've succeeded and have a large enough amount of resources you can do things that are net negative in resource use. Mentorship is also a fistinctly human need. People want to do it, almost like an instinct

I am 64 years old and a mentor in the cannabis industry. I mentor two young growers. All I want is for them to be highly successful as I have no family members to pass this knowledge onto. This lady is right, mentors want true commitment as what they are giving you is info you cant pay to get.

You’re wrong. The mentor gets more grounded in their beliefs and success from passing on the knowledge to the student. The passing of knowledge reaffirms everything for the mentor and strengthens them in their beliefs/convictions. This is the paradox of giving. You are the one who actually receives. For the student my do nothing with the knowledge you bestowed. But the teacher becomes solidified.
