I'll keep Win10 as long as possible.

I made up my mind years ago what I was going to do. I have three PCs that currently run Windows 10. Microsoft, in it's infinite wisdom, told me that Windows 10 was going to become end-of-life - but I couldn't have Windows 11 either (not that I actually wanted it). At that point I decided what to do.

One of these PCs, I use for video and music production. It spends 99% of its time offline. This will become 100% offline. The other two, which get used for more day to day tasks, will become Linux machines, simple as that.

There was no way in Hell that I was going to throw away and replace three perfectly good computers just because Almighty Microsoft said so.

I don't like to think Windows 10 support is ending. I kind of have a "home" here and I don't want to have to move on to Windows 11 or Linux. My biggest worry is if I go on to Windows 11, how much of my old apps and games will still work? It seems that with every new Windows release, more and more older games and apps no longer work. I'm gonna hold on to Windows 10 as long as I can. If I had my way I'd still be using Windows 7 and XP, they'd still be supported and even the new games and apps would still work on them, if I had my own way.

I recently switched my older unsupported laptop to Ubuntu with a Win 10 VM, runs great. I totally agree with Brian though that Linux is not for everyone.

Hey, I got a whole year to decide. Whats the big rush and for a misely $30 that'll make it 2 years away and possibly 3 years. Why all the panic. Do you work for Microsoft?

Linux for me. Have already been there on older equipment. Don't do gaming and have been using MS software alternatives for a long while.

Great video! Your analogy of leaving the door to your house open is great!

I was going to dig my heels in and stick with w10 as long as possible until earlier this year when I saw a BeeLink S12 Mini advertised at a bargain price. It came with w11 Pro preinstalled so for the price I thought I would give it a go. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised and quickly got used to w11 and ended up copying everything I needed from my w10 pc to an external hard drive. When I have time and decide which linux distro I like the look of I will install it on my w10 pc so then I will be better prepared if Microsoft end up doing something really stupid that I don't want. By the way, the BeeLink S12 Mini fits my needs perfectly and it is quiet and lots faster than my w10 pc. Thanks Brian for helping me to make informed choices, keep up the good work.

Well i have on my older laptop Win10 .. and when it reaches EOL i will install Endeavour OS with Gnome on it ... on my newer laptop .. it depends what will MS actually do with Win 11 .. i am still on 23H2 which is nice for the most part .. but if the horror stories come true with 24H2 .. i switch to Linux on this laptop aswell .. most likely to one of this three distros Cachy OS, Nobara or Pika OS since i like to game :) ... and thx Brain for your content i really like your vids !

Great video, I am all prepared, I am now using Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 without all the heavy bloatware which has End Of Life support till 2032, 👍

Absolutely agree with your conclusions. My desktop is 16 years old and my laptop 10 years old so neither can be upgraded to Windows 11. However both working perfectly well with Windows 10 so I have not intention of replacing them. I installed Linux Mint at the beginning of this year alongside Windows 10, dual-boot, and this is working very well for me. I use Linux for most tasks and leave Windows for those apps that do not work in Linux which are very few. I am not a gamer so no issues there. Like you I am not anti-Windows or anti-Microsoft and I am not pro-Linux I simply want an operating system that is safe to use and which works for me and I think I have found a solution which works. We all have different requirements depending on how we use our computers and the internet and others will have different opinions and solutions which I totally respect. It comes down to the simple phrase "whatever works for you".

I'm thinking that staying with the older Windows limits their spying potential to what they currently do. I mean all those hidden processes and mystery internet connections.

I'm staying on Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 for the foreseeable future. It still has another seven years and two months of support left.

It's frustrating that Microsoft has decided to end support for Windows 10 in October 2025, especially considering that around 61% of users are still on this operating system compared to just 36% using Windows 11. Many of us find Windows 10 to be stable and well-optimized; it runs perfectly fine for our needs. In contrast, Windows 11 has been plagued with bugs and stability issues, which make the upgrade feel more like a burden than a benefit.

Furthermore, there's a significant portion of users who own older computers that lack the required TPM 2.0 chip, making it impossible for them to upgrade to Windows 11. This situation raises concerns about inequality in access to technology. It's disheartening to feel forced into an upgrade that many of us don't want or need, especially when the current version we've been using for years is still doing its job well.

I hope Microsoft reconsiders its decision and extends the support date for Windows 10. While business interests and profit margins are likely driving this decision, it's essential to remember the diverse needs of users. A little understanding and flexibility would go a long way in ensuring a smoother transition for everyone involved.

Thank you for all your input, nicely done, if not mistaken, you advise there is a difference in the methods of EOL, security extension paid methods, as if I understood you correctly mentioning that Microsoft paid security updates in their paid extension can done at kernel level, versus 0Patch updates, which is more software based, is this correct?, as planning on retaining Windows 10 on a secondary PC that is dual booted to Windows and Linux, which doesn't meet Microsoft's hardware requirements, as for my main PC plan to remain on Windows 10 till mid-year 2025, before moving to Windows 11, hoping Microsoft will improve their present practice of updates, as tried Windows 11, and returned to Windows 10 from the result of their buggy update on Windows 11, causing issues, thanks again for your effort in presenting this video!

I went over to Linux Mint about 2 years ago and really I have never had an issue with it sure I did have to learn a new operating system that's true but Mint is so like Windows I didn't really have too many issues with it. I have found all the programs I need for video editing and the like plus many other substitute programs that I used to use on Windows plus when you need to update it it doesn't take anywhere nearly as long as what it does on Windows it really is worth giving it a go.
