I love how the icon for "heretical" is a thumbs down and "corruption" is a frowny face

I wouldn't say Enoch was banned from the bible, just made noncanonical but still required reading as the book of Jude referenced 1 Enoch. It was only later during the later Byzantine era to the Middle Ages that 1 Enoch was seen as blasphemous and fully suppressed (although the seeds for its removal started as far back as the First Council of Nicaea). I can't say the same thing about 2 & 3 Enoch.

Matthew 5:28

I read somewhere that scholars think that Gospel of Barnabas author was most likely trying open a path for Christianity and Islam unification into one religion with their writing.

Spoiler alert: These are not banned books — you can freely search for them on the internet. However, these texts were not officially recognized by the Church due to a lack of credible evidence confirming they were truly written by the original apostles or authors. While some of the manuscripts were carbon-dated to the early 2nd century, they were not traced back earlier, which is one reason they weren't favored by the Church.

Also, keep in mind that these writings were composed on papyrus paper, which doesn’t last very long. The fact that they survived this long suggests they were written earlier than previously assumed. That said, it’s not because they were considered heretical or because they supposedly portrayed Jesus in a "darker light" — that’s just a narrative people love to push.

Conspiracy theorists tend to romanticize the idea of a hidden or secret history about Jesus, separate from what’s in the canonical scriptures. But just like most fake news circulating online, anyone can write a story and claim it came from an original source. Always question the hype. Stay grounded, stay discerning — and stay blessed.

I'll likely look for more info about the Apocalypse of Adam, The Apocryphon of John and Gospel of Mary, those were the most intriguing to me, very intricate and distinctive ideas from today's christianity's common dogma in them... the Testament of Solomon too, I think a lot of media portraying demons take quite a bit from it. Thank you for sharing.

The apocalypse was not formalized into canon because in essence, one version has a theological problem in it. According to it, sinners can be set free from hell via saints praying for them. But that rewards ungodfulness in this life and you can just excuse yourself to be just saved by those prayers. Thats the real reason, not the graphical descriptions.

You always get snippets of each of these documents that seem rational and leaves you wondering why they were excluded from the Bible. Thanks to this complete overview, their exclusion makes so much more sense.

Thank you

Gnostic rhetoric remains my favorite among all these esoteric doctrines, as it focuses on metaphysics over ethics. Any chance we can get a more indepth video on Gnosis some time?

Ethiopian orthodox Tewahedo Canon:
The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, along with the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church, uses a specific version of the Christian Bible known as the Orthodox Tewahedo biblical canon.
Apocalypse of Peter's Status:
The "Apocalypse of Peter" is considered a non-canonical work, part of the New Testament apocrypha, and is not included in the Orthodox Tewahedo canon.
Gnostic Associations:
The "Apocalypse of Peter" is associated with Gnosticism, a sect of early Christianity, and is considered a work of apocalyptic literature. Why it's not accepted:
The Church's synods of Carthage and Rome rejected the "Apocalypse of Peter" as apocryphal, contributing to the establishment of the New Testament canon.

1 Timothy 1:3-4
As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

Titus 1:14
Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

Armchair theologian’s opinion: Apocalypse of Peter is more than likely excluded from canon because it unfaithfully depicts the denizens of hell. Rather than scream for the suffering to stop, they scream for mercy. Theologically speaking, the dead in hell would not ask for mercy. Mercy is conditional upon the firm amendment of the will to sin no more, and the possibility of “changing our mind” is limited to this life. There is a deeper theological reason connecting the nature of human intellect and the body. IIRC, it has to do with the fact that, given the nature of the human intellect and body, the possibility of free will only exists through our bodily nature. Once we die, that avenue is shut off, so it becomes impossible to choose otherwise. At the moment of our death, the choices we freely made in life become the ends we pursue eternally. Thus the hellish do not scream for mercy, as they have committed themselves to the eternal pursuit of evil. They only scream because they suffer.

A good depiction of this is, funny enough, Dante’s Inferno. Ironic given that there are a lot of other theological problems with it, but yeah: if you look at what each person in Hell says to Dante, never once do they apologize. They ask for respite from suffering, they talk sweetly of how *they* were wronged by God, but never do they ask for mercy because they want to do good.

I’m not explaining this perfectly, but you get the idea. I believe St. Thomas Aquinas writes on this topic, but I can’t remember where it is in the Summa Theologiae.

Some of these stories actually sound really good, as just stories.
I kind of want to see a movie or something about some of these stories.
