'Freedom of the press is about our freedom'

During an event to mark Press Freedom day on 3 May, the UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Kate Gilmore, stressed the importance of press freedom and ints intricate relationship with other rights.

"However we may describe today's suite of social and traditional media outlets, however, diverse, familiar or new, whether local, national or international, it remains the case that neither technology advance nor market machination has altered the fact that there is and will always be an intricate interrelationship between press freedom, freedom of expression, the rule of law, accountability, social justice and dignity."

The event was held in Geneva.
