We live in a world where geniuses are always unsure of themselves but idiots are full of confidence

Professionalism comes with Humility
Edit: wow. Nearly 2k likes. Thanks, everyone.
Also, I know some professional individuals have inflated egos too but c'mon. Have a little faith.

As someone who has worked as a journalist and now works in communications at a hospital I can only agree. Interviewing doctors and scientists for articles and such is never an easy task as they usually will not say something is 100 % a certain way. Real experts know that they don´t have all the answers and that can be frustrating as consumers and patients because we just want a simple, straightforward answer to our problems.

People are turning to functional medicine and people like Gary because their recommendations and information are changing their lives for the better. Him and functional docs start with labs… seems more like an expert move than most PC docs.

There are lots of stories of people going to the doc, getting prescribed meds, not feeling listened to, and often times feeling worse. If people are feeling better with his advice (and functional docs) then maybe docs and him should team up and try to educate. Imagine how much better our health care system would be.

Im in my 30s and had to see 3 different docs to finally find one that would run labs and help me get to the bottom of something. Only to be told I needed some gnarly pill. Listened to Gary’s advice (which came from functional doc), my labs are better, and I feel WAY better… without meds. That seems more like “science” to me vs 2 docs wanting to diagnose me without labs and one throwing a drug at me as my only option and not educating me on risk.

I've listened to a lot of what Gary has said and I feel 10 yrs younger.. I don't buy any of his products, I've switched to a methylated multivitamin and started drinking a sea salt sole and have been migraine free for almost a month, when I would normally have 3 a week . So I stick with what he says because I've noticed actual improvement when I've made these dietary changes.

I blame our education system which focuses far too much on rote memorization and “right” answers vs “wrong answers” without teaching critical thinking or the scientific method in any meaningful capacity.

My wife's birth doctor had never worked with and/or heard of her rare ass uterine problems, to the point where she had to draw a diagram of her uterus for him and map it out, and from her barely legible sketch, he was able to birth my son into this world working with something he had never even known existed. Doctors are built different

I’ve only ever heard Gary talk about not jumping into medications that ultimately will cause you bad side affects in the future, he legit advices looking into basic deficiencies we all suffer from long term which will inevitably cause health problems obviously. Fixing those through good salts, and getting to a normal baseline of vitamin and minerals… before committing to a long term treatment of meds that cause so many other health issues. He’s not speaking like a doctor because he isn’t one, doctors are selling you these meds. Doctors are the ones under a big organisation that is making money from us being sick long term and on a long term treatment…

This reminds me of this quote from W. B. Yeats' poem The Second Coming:

"The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity."

A good doctor or lawyer almost always answer questions with "It depends" :)

The experts are unsure... Because they are accountable to their colleagues in research.
These podcasters spew rubbish and then go home without having to worry about being fired tomorrow.

I told my psychiatrist that I tend to research medications due to my anxiety, and she was like "okay..." but the absolute relief on her face when I made sure to tell her I only look at scientific studies was priceless. I didn't realize people considered research to be randos online.
