Climate Activists Shut Down Citibank HQ in NYC, Demand Halt to Fossil Fuel Investments

As the United Nations General Assembly meets in New York City alongside Climate Week, dozens of activists were arrested Monday at a protest outside of Citibank's global headquarters while demanding the company divest from fossil fuels. Democracy Now! was there and we feature voices of Bill McKibben and other climate activists from the Gulf South, Bangladesh and more on the impact of Citibank-funded projects in their communities. "I'm not even a teenager yet, and I have to fight for my life and many others my age," says 12-year-old Kamea Ozane from Southwest Louisiana. "I shouldn't have to do this. This is not right."

If you're going to shut something down, shut down the IRS, the government, the insurance companies. This is just busy work that doesn't help the whole, but the few. The average Joe is drowning in debt, bills, student loans, high food costs, neighborhoods being taken over by illegal immigrants, homelessness, etc.

Overall, I do commend them for fighting for what they believe in, though. At least they are doing something about something. I guess.
