the truth about your bank 🫣
Показать описание
Since the Paris Agreement in 2016, these big banks have invested this much in fossil fuel drilling & expansion:
☠️ Chase - $434.15 BILLION
☠️ Citi Bank - $332.9 BILLION
☠️ Wells Fargo - $316.7 BILLION
☠️ Bank of America - $279.73 BILLION
For the full list, you can check out Rainforest Action Network “Banking on Chaos” report.
Bank of America, which was actually founded in LA in 1923, continues to prioritize profit over people & planet, which is just evil given the recent heavy rainfall exacerbated by climate change across California. It reminds me of the Cree Indian quote, “only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money, we cannot drink oil.”
Once we know better, we must do better. Here are a few ways to take action:
2️⃣ Apply pressure to elected officials, encouraging them to demand banks disclose their ratio of dirty energy to clean energy lending, similar to Brad Lander, the comptroller of New York City.
3️⃣ Follow the lead of climate scientists and activists, continuing to call out & expose these banks for their harmful practices.
For more on this, you can check out Bill McKibben’s recent substack.
