opel corsa c 1.0 timing chain replacing (before and after noise)

preview_player
Показать описание
first 20 sec of video-nosie of timing chain before replacing, then goes sound of replaced timing chain and chain tensioner. Very often problem on opel(vauxhall) petrol engines (1.0, 1.2, 1,4). Failing chain makes a sound of diesel engine. Timing chain colaps on low milage on 1.0 motor. You can hear cain noise at only 15000 kilometers, after only one year of driving your new car. Its problem on corsa b, c and d.

Thanks dude that ticking noise has been bugging me for weeks, replaced the radiator fan, alternator was beginning to think some swine had snuck in some night and switched the engine for a diesel one.

This is really useful - it's a noisy engine when ok, so this has helped reassure mines ok

Your engine looks pretty clean for a Corsa C one which is at least 5 yrs old. You really look to take care of your car.

Mine was doing the exact same thing. Had the chain and tensioner replaced and now it runs like a champ. Put a K&N air filter in it as well.

to me although a vast improvement, it still sounded noisey after, as mine does now after a new timing chain was fitted, and i was told by a mechanic that when doing the timing chain you should also take the sump off and clean out or replace the oil pump as they are still noisey due to lack of oil being pumped up to the chain so i will be giving this a go to see if theres any improvement at some point, also using 5w 30 may be the reason its noisey when hot halfords recommends 10w40

Id say the VW. The engine in those 3 cylinder poppers from opel is actually a product of Suzuki made for GM (Low budget production). The best example, the Astra models, in the near future they´re also gonna be produced in an athor country. I used to have trust and faith in Opel but the more I see and hear the more Im startin to think things over.

It cost me 280 euro. Corsa is still whispering after replacing a chain  :-). You must replace  tensioner too, if you replace only chain it will fail very soon. Corsa is passed 30.000 km after replacing, chain is still good and quiet. Engine is very economic and elastic for 1.0 engine (973 ccm). Thank you for watching this video...

Corsa c 1.2 done 354.000 km in less than 7 years..never had this problem.. corsa d 1.2 140.000km in 3 years..no problems with the chain

Quite surprised it STILL sounds that loud.

Yes, when engine is cold, there is no noise, its very quiet, when engine is hot engine becomes very noisy. When oil is hot its loss density and tensioner can not do his job, timing chain is longer that it should be.

No, i did not have a cam shaft error, only a bad sound. A cam shaft error is last stadium, i did my chain replace earlier.

I think Vauxhall/Opel engines are not so bad. Mine has a little oil leak but trusty and silent. Fuel consumption could be better, but 25 mpg is not bad from a 15 yrs old 1.4 automatic in city traffic. Anyway I drove this car from London to Eastern Hungary without any failure. C14NZ is not the most economic engine on the world, but I think one of the most trusty.

You may have been right about the valve issue. I took the valve cover off, set the engine to the OT position. The first thing i noticed on the rear end of the camshafts is that one of them lined up (straight line) with the block and the other one wasnt lined up. So Im thinkin that the chain has already jumped at least one tooth on the sprocket. Normaly the tool that holds the cams in place should fit right on in with no further problem. Were yours properly lined up when it was in OT position??

By the way: what are those two yellow/green platic rings around a hose to the right of throttle valve?

Sometimes timing chain is not a problem, valve lifters need to be changed.

When I started to use a 0w40 (I live in a cold area) it started to be more noisy than before, when I used 10w30. It seems that the the lower the oil density, the more noisy is. They told me that it is a normal thing.
And my corsa D 1.4 has still 35.000 and I don't have in mind to change the Timing Chain at all, at least until it has 60.000 km. Well, wish me luck lol
