The Shining is my favourite Horror movie of all time, because of the acting, direction, writing, music and cinematography. Also because it's not a monster movie or a slasher film. All of the horror is the madness.

While I understand from a storytelling perspective why Stephen King hates this adaptation of his book and I do not excuse Kubrick's harsh treatment of Shelly Duvall, I will not argue that Kubrick created an atmosphere that the book does not have that has allowed "The Shining" to endure as one of the best horror movies of all time.

This film has a strange and disturbing sense of hypnosis to it. It’s quite mesmerizing and balletic at times, almost as if you are a character in the story. A truly phenomenal film by Kubrick

Doctor Sleep was a very cool sequel and brought back the nostalgia of this gorgeous movie. There were quite a few things I would’ve changed about doctor sleep, but overall it was amazing!

I'm not a horror movie fan, but I love King's books (I think it's because there's no actual visuals or music to highten the terror). I read The Shining, and it still haunts me. But it was SO GOOD. But I also know I definitely won't be watching the movie lol -- that would be too much, call me a baby or whatever you want but I know myself and I would have nightmares. My nightmares are always fueled by visual things I see in movies and stuff.
