60 now been riding since 17. Heres a tip for new riders told me by my dad. When you go out, treat every other road users as an idiot, you know their going to do it, its just a matter of when.
It works.

I started riding a motorcycle because it was either that or walk. That was 40 years ago. Now, I happiest cruising the suburbs at 35-40 mph.

I think it is worth it. I choose to wear a helmet, armored riding jacket, armored riding gloves, and high lace up boots every time I ride to limit my risk and I do everything I can to avoid dangerous situations and position myself for safety. I never get in a hurry when I ride and I yield the right of way to bigger vehicles.

Imagine for a moment a world without motorcycles, now slap yourself and don't do it again!

As someone who should have probably been killed in the accident that left me paralyzed; A. ATGATT is life. Literally. And B. Consider not riding on the street in Florida. If you do, be sure to leave excessive safety margins and watch out for blind old ladies that want to get to the grocery store without waiting for traffic.

I've been contemplating this for so long. It just feels like constantly dodging missiles that doesn't acknowledge you well. It's just too stressful at times.

For me it's worth it. It is one of the few things that gives my mind a break.

Been street riding for almost 6 months now. I don't see myself stopping anytime soon but just like driving cars I've learned you just need to be careful.

Yep. Been riding since before cellphone texting and smart phone app usage by car drivers and the difference in safety is huge. The danger while riding in traffic has gone up quite a bit and I typically avoid riding in heavy traffic when possible now because you can no longer expect car drivers to pay as much attention.

You learn something every time you ride your motorcycle. It doesn't matter where street, track or trail. There is risk in everything. But the more you ride safe..., the more you learn.

I've only been riding for a year now, but I definitely fall into the motorcycle riding is a zen thing. Doesn't mean that can't change, but I just like to go for a ride. I also don't have the money for track days.

A million miles of roads, they're everywhere, vs limited miles of trails.

If that's a question you asks yourself then just don't.
Scared road users are dangerous road users.

I'm strictly a street rider. Got just the one bike and nothing else. I do have an interest in getting into some light trail riding some day, but it's not something I'm in a rush to do. Track days will never happen for me simply because of the money investment. I already have another very expensive hobby (amateur astronomy), so there's only so much money I can throw around at each hobby. I will predominantly always be a street rider with, someday, mixing in some light trails on a dual sport or perhaps lighter ADV bike.

I don't - and probably never will - hit the track. I don't have anything against it, but as a Canadian with a young family and full-time work, I have limited time from April to November during which I can ride. My closest track is 2 hours away and for me to have even enough time to myself to make a drive that far is rare! For me, riding is meditative summer commuting and maybe the occasional day trip with a couple of friends.

Yeah man. Im 31 and got my first bike last october. joined a fb page, the whole bit. as someone thats a little older than your squid with his/her newly wedded bike, the risks just become more apparent once those tires hit the road rolling. im not paranoid, but im not ignorant either. i like to do short little rides around town, commute to work, and sort of enjoy the scene. the longer i have my bike the more i want to get a dirt bike because off roading is just too much fun. but anyway, yea, road riding always presents a risk because of the infinite factors that are surrounding you at all times. ill leave you bikers with this “dress for the fall, not the ride”

I think if you wanna ride on the street you should first drive on the street and learn defensive driving techniques. I just started riding and I feel like my 5 years of experience driving in the street helped me recognize the patterns in traffic and hazards in my local area. And I live in LA notorious for the worst drivers lol
