I take the Honda E Advance out for a winter range test to see what it can do in real life under real conditions with an avid EV driver at the wheel :)

Please like and subscribe and also follow on Instagram if you want to see pics and little vids etc.

That's a proper Sampson range test. Take it beyond 0% and make it back. Well done.

We just traded in our 2019 ioniq ev for this. It's only used for commuting to work 1 hour away, so the range isn't a problem (though it would of course be nice with more range), and all the tech is so much more advanced than in the ioniq!

The biggest upside for me is the sound system in the advance model, as it's probably the best sound system I've heard from a modern car! A bit lacking in the mids, but low-mid bass, and trebble is wonderful! Makes the 2 hours of driving every day so much more fun!

hopefully this car sells well, and they release an updated version with a battery that can do at least 150 miles.

I do enjoy how your videos show the real life ev usage And that car looks like a nice place to spend some time

Damn thats less miles than I was expecting. Exeter services into Cornwall on the A30 at 5 degrees used to get us home (86 miles) at 60mph in a 27kw Soul and thats bigger and shaped like a brick!! I still really like the Honda e for some reason but its really hard to get past that range though. Still good video and look forward to the rest of them, have a good Christmas.

So it's pretty much where the 2013 Leaf was at, but with a lot more technology and refinements. Thanks for the useful and interesting video, Ian. 🙂👍

What kind of range can you expect when driving on the motorway?

Can I suggest 2 things? 1) a lavaliere mic you can clip to that jumper and then plug into your phone. Clap your hands a d then use that second audio source to sync to your video. You’re impossible to hear whilst driving. 2) Get audio toning software - Mauvio for iOS or SoundSoap for pc/mac - to remove the pops, reduce the booming base and make the audio pop more. Otherwise, very happy to see you making vids again! (Although I’m still gonna buy an ID.3...and that jumper).

I’ve found on mine that my range has gone from about 120 miles in the summer to about 90 miles in the winter. I never let it get lower than 8% tho. Last time I did that the secondary batter drained all the way and I had to trickle charge it. Car totally died.

I love mine. Tons of personality and drives fantastic- but range is not it’s strength.

Ian you are just a natural genius. Also do not forget when (soon) hope not so soon but anyway EU and other authorities will come out with the regualations which performance cars can roll, this smaller acu package is going to be an advantage. Less CO2 and W used for charging this car, for better climate footprint. Any way this is a city car and near settlements. Soon we even may pay for the use of the sun (light ) :D Great vid and car!!!

An interesting and balanced review. You can’t ask for any more. It is certainly going to be a very marmite car in my opinion, so tech advanced on the inside it really is fantastic, yet from the outside it is so 70’s and 80’s retro style. The round headlights and the very flat front scream that era. I suspect the manufacturers have deliberately left themselves room to bring out larger range models but start off with milking the hardcore fan market first. A fascinating car.

After years of seeing none of them Es on the road (in Belgium) I've seen 2 in a few days !
And they even pop up on YT again as well - it's scary

Everybody seems to forget that when the gasoline powered automobile first came on the scene you could not go very far with them either because there were no gas stations. In the United States where I lived you had to go to the pharmacy in England they call him a chemist to get gasoline. It took about 50 years in the United States anyway for there to be enough gas stations for it to be fairly easy to go on a long distance travel.

6:50 i see you have no air con or heating on to demist the windows to conserve battery. Not a dig but just a thing i noticed on e car reviews a few are in eco mode doing 55mph and no heating to get an extra 5 miles range, it's a shame they don't have a safety margin when nearing 5% that you can put the car into a lean run restricted speed mode thatll double or triple your predicted range to 0% battery as that imo would go a little way to kerb range anxiety if your near your destination and just need to get as much range as possible from the last 5%.

Thanks Good video and kudos for going that low, I would have been very worried! I bailed on my pre-order because I wanted to be able to get to Cheshire without charging. That’s 100 miles. My Leaf will do it but it leaves you with nothing when you arrive. Another 20 or 30 miles and I would have been driving one as well! The charging isn’t supposed to be brilliant either, so looking forward to the next video!

A range 80 miles in inadequate, the car needs a range extender IC engine, a small 125 cc engine of 10bhp either driving a generator or mechanically connected to the road wheels by a clutch would be adequate to permit steady cruising at 50 - 60 mph and make a great difference to the practicality of the E
