That one about an essentials box is a life saver. Label it "box 1" in massive writing, and fill it with toilet roll, tea bags, a bin liner, a bar of soap, a big bowl, one set of cutlery & a mug etc... If at any time you get sick of un-packing, you can chill with a cuppa and not have to worry :)

I like the tip of using colored dots to show which room it goes in.  It sounds faster, easier, and more fun than bothering to write in big markers "Living Room", for example, on all sides.

Genius tricks but I know from experience that moving furniture is easiest when lightest. Less fatigue and can work longer. Besides, it's put back together wherever it's going to be sitting for a while anyways. Also, the forwarding envelopes is simply brilliant. Never thought of that nor have I ever seen it done before.

Excellent video! Cutting handles in the box is a great idea. Just be sure to round off the corners at the top before folding the flap in. Doing so helps prevent the handle from tearing upward with heavier weight.

Some very good tips. Except for one. Packing books or heavy items in a bookshelf or dresser may be more compact and use less space but makes moving those furniture items much heavier and more susceptible to falling apart under their own weight. A lot these pieces are cheaply made and not designed to be moved with heavy items inside them.
Reducing the weight also decreases the chance of injury due to lifting as well, because dressers and bookshelves become ridiculously heavy when filled with heavy items.

another moving tipp:
if you have some people to help you move, do not carry each box the complete way. just make a chain of people like e.g. one for person per floor an hand the boxes over..
you will be amazed how much easier and faster moving gets!

I did the room labelling thing, my sister put her stuff in my box, and she hasn't stopped complaining about it since we moved in 5 years ago.

This is great!!!
We are having a very hard time moving to the other side of town so this is great for when we get to the major packing!

Hey Dave, thanks for the Milk Carton boat video.
I am a professional mover and I have a few objections.
Making handle into cardboards maybe looks cute but unnecessary also creates structural damage to boxes and will tear easily.
People dont think when they fill up boxes, since they hire professional movers most of the time, they think all the movers are The Hulk.
2. Again, putting books into drawers will make a movers job harder, you actually making our lives harder with your thoughful tips.
Hope you can revise them.

Good tips guys!! Defo used/using the cutting slits on cardboard box (I also wrapped some duct tape round the opening to make stronger coz a couple had ripped. So that helped. The paper plated in between ceramic plated and the linen for round the other items. Saved the paper and got the stuff moved /protected. Great tips I wouldn't have done otherwise
