Everyone's sayin reusing assets but honestly I'll never get tired on how Kamurocho evolves with every game.

Ever since I played yakuza, I’m blown away how the reused assets doesn’t feel stale. Not only that it gives familiarity to some parts, but they also made sure the aspect themselves evolve in some way, whether it’s a graphics change or even a adjustment to the setting a bit. I also feel like this helped ease in the other parts of development, like game mechanics and definitely story.

it feels real too, living in a big city shops change all the time. but the roots are the same

The main story is a movie
The substories are spinoff tv series
The gameplay is blowing off steam

I’m less impressed by the technical stuff, they’re reusing assets from 2005 in their newest stuff. I’m always super impressed that they can write and perform such consistently high quality scripts so fast.

Reusing assets, slowly implementing new technology with each entry and different storytelling

Building off every previous game is such a genius franchise-making mentality.

The linear content is the greatest thing to fo to games, the too much freedom and toouch open the world makes the games usually boring and with disappointing stories

They copy and paste the maps (sometimes there are new ones), make new substories which should have a bigger budget because they lack voice acting and sometimes are just bad filler, copy and paste minigames (sometimes there are new ones).

The story is always the thing with the largest budget but considering the amount of recycling these games really shouldn't be that expensive. Gaiden is 250 Reais here in Brazil because they added a really small new map and a fighting style. Go figure.

Yakuza 8 had all the budget put into Hawaii bcs if you play it you'll notice how Ijincho and especially Kamurocho barely have any content

I love Yakuza, but let's be real here...they're just taking the exact same city and updating textures and assets, throwing in a couple of new cutscenes and minigames. It's the equivalent of doing a remake of the same game every year. Very low effort relative to making a whole new game from scratch.
