In this video, I show my students how to trim a form which is shallow- a bit of a cross between a plate and a bowl. I show how I left a lot of clay at the base of the wall for support when I threw, but then I trim it away for a smaller foot when it is leatherhard. I am using my favorite and most indispensible trimming tool to hold the piece- my Giffin Grip.

This bowl is also used in another demonstration- texturing the outside. See video link here:

This video is for my students in Ceramics I, II, and III (Wheel Throwing) at William Mason High School, in Mason, Ohio as well as anyone in the general public that just wants to learn a bit more about working with clay! If you want more specific information on other methods of throwing, or even just the beginning stages of centering, dropping, or opening, check out some of my other videos!

I am a high school ceramics teacher (and occasionally digital arts too) and I have my own pottery business I do from home on nights and weekends.
