I honestly like The Mask comics primarily because it plays on the trope of "with great power, comes great responsibility" but turns it on its head. In short, it plays with the idea of "what if you were given great power but you use it for your own petty motives and desires".

Big head in comics has comedy cartoon powers where everyone else is still normal. So he hits you with a mallet, you dont flatten you just die.

A couple corrections:
The mask's full title is "the big head killer" in the comics
It doesn't amplify *negative traits* exactly, it just amplifies all of them to cartoonish degrees while effectively turning the person into a living cartoon character, it's just that when you're emotions are up to 15 and you have god like power, it doesn't exactly stay safe for everyone involved, stanley ipkiss was already having thoughts about vengeance and other violent actions, so naturally, he just acted on them while having zero inhibitions

Mask personality depends upon the personality of the person wearing it. Mask gives superpower to turn the person's fantasy into reality. In the movie "Mask" Jim Carrey's character loves to watch cartoon a lot specifically "looney toones" so he fights and behaves like it. but he is a good guy. but if a bad guy wears the mask he becomes super villain.
