One thing I’ll never forget is a while after I came out as trans, my dad came to me and apologized for raising me like a boy, and that he shouldn’t have raised me with such a set mindset of what I might be like. He’s one of my biggest supporters, I love my dad so much.

My friend’s parents force her to dress like a girl, they keep changing their expectations (ex. She wears a shirt with a skirt one day, and then the next day, the same shirt is suddenly ugly) they get mad at her when she asks to wear something that doesn't fit their expectations, and when she acts the way they want her to, they criticize her for it, saying that girls are “sensitive” and “her brother would be fine” and “we tried to raise you to be strong”. I’m amazed how she’s a functional human being, and when she moves out, I’m gonna do my best to help her escape from her parents. She’s a wonderful person and she doesn't deserve any of it 😡😡😡

The last one reminds me of the time I went to Beamish with my Dad (I'm a Brit so it's a open air museum with buildings from the Victorian period that you can go in bla blah blah).

So we're in the gift shop and I'm probably about 12 years old and I find this awesome cuddly snake toy.

I place it on the counter and this woman looks at me and my item and then asks me "Wouldn't you like a dolly instead?"

"Nope".

I'm not trans but that interaction has always stuck with me as being really funny.

Tomboy me requires snake. Tomboy me acquired the snake. Tomboy me pushed away the notion that I might've liked a doll better.
