grinded all day, every day from 10 years old to 19. Now I'm 500 elo but was 300 only three days ago!!!! I hope I don't plateau!!! Plan is to see 550 in the next 20 years.

Problem is that draws are so common in chess. If you could consistently win (i.e. not draw) against lower rated players you could slowly climb to 2900 but even at 2800 you might draw as black against a lower rated player causing you to loose a lot of ELO.

for anyone who is wondering why he thinks age matters so much, look up neuroplasticity.
essentially as you age, if you aren't actively grinding the task at hand and forming nuanced understandings and habits, you aren't going to make it higher than a certain level.
this is actually why pro video game players have longer careers than initially thought, they can actively grind their game because there is a lot more money in it and it's a viable career option.
most chess players however choose college over chess for a time and lose their practice.
not to say that you can't overcome the idea of age being a factor, similar to Levon, but it takes a 24/7 grind and a hunger to be the greatest.
most chess players either lose that drive, or don't have the money/time to waste playing chess all day every day

Elo rating is a bell curve, and a zero sum system. In order for higher ratings to be possible, you need those points to come from somewhere (lower rated players). The real limiting factor is population size. At a certain point the system reaches equillibrium with the current ratings of all players, the only way for them to increase is for the total amount of points in the system to increase, by having more players become rated.

The 20-21 thing is because your brain stops being overwhelmed by hormones. It is the perfect range where your brain is still sharp but it starts to calm down and lets you focus.

What's up with so many of Hikaru's fans bashing on Levy. It just shows the type of person you are when you do that. Riding off of Hikaru's coattails to act like you are better than him. Levy is probably a better player than 99 percent of the fans who bash him and he is definitely more entertaining than them

Hans and Wei Yi are study in contrasts . Wei Yi zoomed to 2700 before 18 and sort of plateaued . While Hans was never noteworthy in the beginning, fell a lot but managed to reach 2600 .
