I've always been terrified of wasps, once we were having dinner outside, Mom told me as long as I don't move around, the wasp wouldn't bite me. I watched it slowly land on my hand and bite me. Never trusting those little A holes

I can see why wasps get mad when you get near their nest... they spent their entire life on that project!

The more I learn about wasps, the more I'm convinced they're just xenomorphs without the facehuggers (excluding the parasitoid species, but it still applies to them too). If they were bigger, we'd be extinct

First, thank you for emphasizing that wasps are NOT bees. I actually got into an argument with a YouTuber, someone who removes them for a living, and he insisted that it's perfectly accurate to call wasps bees. Drives me crazy.
As always, you've provided an informative and interesting video. Less afraid, though? Not really. Spheksophobia, like all phobias I think, is irrational. The fear is usually way out of proportion to the actual danger. Knowledge helps, but doesn't make me less afraid, only safer. Many times phobias spring from traumatic incidents. In my case, my first encounter with a wasp was being cornered by one, where my only options were to freeze or literally jump into the lake behind me. I was about ten years old, I think. To this day, I have never seen a wasp that big. I didn't even know what it was. Dad said, "Don't move. Stand still." I didn't even see the thing at first. And then I saw it, hovering in front of us, sizing us up. After what seemed an eternity, it flew away.
From that, a fear was born. I was a city kid. Vacations in the country were difficult because of wasps. One year, there was a ground yellow jacket nest near our cabin. My brother, cousin and aunt got stung. My uncles thought it was funny that I was afraid... so they tied me up to two posts about 8 feet from the nest. From that, a phobia was born. I am even afraid of dead wasps. Not the stings... I've never been stung, and my fear of that is probably the same as anyone else's. I am afraid of the wasps themselves! (I was probably about 12 at that time, and if I had know that what they did was child abuse, I would certainly have reported them once I got free. But I was just a kid. What did I know?)
Oh, and the reason why it drives me crazy when people call wasps "bees" is because I am not afraid of bees. I absolutely know the difference: A bee does not trigger my fight or flight response. A wasp does, dead or alive. So why do I watch your videos? Education, I guess. I may hate them and fear them, but they still do fascinate me... from a distance! Keep up the good work!

Fascinating info! I have a crabapple tree in my yard. In Spring, I can sit right under the tree while the bees snack on blossom nectar/pollen. They’re very mellow. In the Fall, the crabapples fall to the ground and ferment. The yellowjackets then gorge on those and get drunk. Yellowjacks are nasty under regular circumstances; their attitudes don’t improve when they’re tipsy!

What I learned from this video is that I need to go get rid of the old wood in my yard.

Story time,

I had to pull an all-nighter so I could bring my roommate to his internship at the hospital. So I started watching some youtube. I was bingeing Hornet King Videos and got to the one where he got the European Hornet Queen. I was 5 or 6 videos in and was "entranced" by these videos, even though I have a respectful fear towards anything that can fly that has a stinger. XD. Anyway, leaning forward at my computer at 3:00am watching the Queen move around the desk, she started to take flight. The sound and action of her flying toward the camera caused me to almost fall out of my chair.

It was probably one of the scariest/funniest moments I had while watching your videos Hornet King, I love your vids. Keep doing what you do.

I’ve always been intimidated by wasps. When I was a kid (8-10) I tripped on a tree root landing what I assume was directly on top of an underground nest. Within a blink of an eye there was nothing but countless wasps and an insane buzzing sound. I took off screaming and flailing my arms. Took 3 stings, and as a kid that was the worst pain I had had to that point. Even today at 27, I still have to make a conscious effort to be calm when wasps are around.

I've been stung so many times I would jump in front of a moving car to get away from one. I feel like they actually seek me out from a crowd and start dive bombing me.

I’ve actually dealt with very mellow wasps before. Each wasp I’ve met was alone, and none of them have stung, or bit me. Once was on a road trip and the wasp just hung out in the backseat with me, and got out at one of our pit stops. Another was trapped inside the house so I got a pencil to move him with and took him outside. More recently a wasp enjoyed the teeny little bit of snow cone I had left in my cup. And just today there was one trapped in our laundry room and I let him out, this time I was brave enough to let him crawl on me. I have an absolute phobia of any and all types of bugs, insects and spiders, however I hate killing them. I’ve gotten really cool pictures of them and am super fascinated by them.

I’m not sure why none of them stung me, if I just wasn’t a threat or because they were grateful I helped them in some way, but I know they were all cool and I treasure the pictures I got.

I’ve always had what I would call a “healthy” fear of wasps. I’ve been stung several times over the years and really don’t like wasps flying anywhere near me, but I really enjoy watching them and learning about them.

I love this video! Thank you for also being driven crazy by people calling wasps bees, etc. LOL. The Order Hymenoptera contains wasps and bees and they of course are directly related, but are not the exact same insect. If you’ve ever heard of “velvet ants” they are basically a wingless wasp and also members of order Hymenoptera along with all ants. Cool huh? Who knew wasps and ants were cousins? I leaned this is when I took invertebrate zoology back in the early 2000s.

I demand MORE wasp I mean, please, this video was so neat.

How about misconceptions or the life cycle of wasps (typical life and death, how long they can live without a nest, food and water, etc)?

LOVE this content, king

Can you please make a video for people with major fears of bees and wasps? My fear is so bad that I can’t even go outside and if I see a wasp free flying on tv or at the window, I will start crying and screaming. Your videos don’t make me afraid for some reason... but I really need to get over my fear

I've renamed bald face hornets because of you. I now refer to them as Tuxedo Wasps. When perplexed people ask me why, I refer them to the Hornet King channel!
