Lyrics:

[Verse 1: David Paich]
I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in, 12:30 flight
Her moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say
"Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you"

[Chorus: Bobby Kimball]
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

[Verse 2: David Paich]
The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside
Frightened of this thing that I've become

[Chorus: Bobby Kimball]
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

[Bridge]
Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you

[Chorus: Bobby Kimball]
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

I don't know what my cousins in South Africa would do if Toto didn't bless the rains in Africa.

1 of the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard. I cannot believe the harmony contained within this song. Absolutely beautiful.

In my mid 20s when I would go with coworkers to happy hours this was always the song that I did whatever I could to get to play first on the digital jukebox. It’s poetry and it puts me into such a euphoric state of mind 🎉🎉🎉

Jeff Porcaro was such a magical player. Absolutely beautiful pattern on the kit. 💯👍

The entire band was amazing. Wish Jeff was still around 😪

I'm having a nostalgia attack. This was played so much throughout the entire 2010s! I'm glad it still plays in public spaces in the 2020s; this song is absolutely beautiful and optimistic, enhancing my ADHD and causing me to hop around the Earth's circumference euphorically.

Just read that Timothy B. Schmidt is singing super high parts at the end of the song. What a voice.

Every time I listen to this dreamy masterpiece I fall into a sublimely mellow trance, one that induces the most beautiful reflection along with an easy, all consuming rapture that is very healing, & wonderfully evocative, magically so.
Few songs can do that.

Anyone who doesn't love the love and the longing and the wistfulness and the SINGABILITY of this song--well, we're not likely to be friends. I don't even love this band (CEPT LYNCH DUNE SOUNDTRACK!) but this song makes me happy EVERY TIME I HEAR IT and I can't say that about very many songs.

Remember when everyone was obsessed with this song in like 2016-2017 and kept making memes about it? Those were good times

Whatever you think of Toto and their smooth over-produced albums, this is a friggin great song.
