Toby Hodges sails a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 410 with a difference - one with the draught of a Class 40, yet the ability to nose into the shallows.

Yes, we recently got a 2011 Sun Odyssey 44I and we've been sailing at almost 11kts in fair winds, plus the quality is still top for a 10 year old yacht. very few upgrades or issues. You really enjoy sailing it. This one is beautiful! Thanks for the videos! Great you're a Jeanneau self-confessed guy. Ours is Philippe Briand and I love it. Cheers from Mexico!

Methinks Toby could review a can opener and I would love it.

Question: Does marine growth get the interior of the keel pocket fouled up? It looks like it would be hard to keep clean.

Would love to see someone brave enough to put the legs on and beach this in a test.. brilliant addition to the line and for long term cruising options and if it will last 10years look forward to picking one up once the depreciation has brought it into reality.

A very complementary review she doesn't deserve.

Interesting changes to the 409. Love the chart table, furled Code 0 (although shape if cut to furl?) and forward cabin. Galley layout is interesting too. Do NOT like no traveller … a bit of a pet peeve and I wonder about sheeting and downhaul on the jib with that ‘bobbin’ arrangement?

I like how they did the bed in the forward, instead of the v birth, a slant bed creating a nice space.

Nice to see Toby actually naming off some short falls, not just the sales brochure. Great ideas in this boat, but the quality is definitely questionable. I can't wait to see these in 30 years. One major draw back for me on the interior, is the recessed upper lighting, where a hand rail used to be. With volume you need hand rails, if you plan to leave the dock. I would be getting some installed asap if this was my boat.

Thanks for the great review! Didn't like the position of the winches. Will only deliver clumsy operation. Too many ropes running around. Lacks mainsheet traveler. Anchor/sail locker is not bad for a 40 footer. I think the main design criteria was to maximize the indoor space, as the boat (deck) is quite tall. Let's hope they kept its weight center low enough. That keel is pretty interesting. Again, let's hope that it will hold-up in high seas...

Brilliant good thing is that a single handed have enough space to winch, and it is close to the helm. No other yacht has this feature. Side deck is the best addition here, where in rough weather, sailor have a safe corridor to walk to right to the bow. I am not sure if the German system is a smart replacement, needs to be proven while sailing. Chain at the bow is too much up. It might be a good solution to be taken back down. Are these windows a fashion? They look ugly. Kill up/down, - wow. That's a feature for a production boat. I can imagine how many of the cruisers will bless this when going in shallow waters. Good luck if that fails, it has a lot of machinery in it. I cannot understand why interior is all in square mode, looks cheap of the cheapest for a comfort of 41 footer. Options to choose rooms and heads, especially for one head choice are great. This size yacht has never been more spacious, and you will find nothing more on a much larger yachts. Dream on to see this yacht in Australia for the price of 300K AUD even without the lift keel.

My 1994 Beneteau First 265's cabin sole has no ruff edges and the entire floor was varnished at the yard. I don't know why Beni/Jeanneau would stop sealing their floorboards other than saving money on production. It's a niggle, but i would not stop me from purchasing a Jeanneau.

You guys need to fix the Audio. Maybe a Zoom Mic? It's quite the pocket size really... should be easy enough to sync it with the footage later.
