Hello ladies and gentlemen this is Ryan from TunerKnowledge and today I'm going to tell you a little bit about how you wheeel offset. So this here is a stock wheel from an s2000 which i have right here, I'm gonna flip this wheel around so I can show you where this information would be. So this is a spoke wheel, a 5 spoke wheel this information happens to be inside one of the spokes. A lot of times you'll see it there or around the hub area, you can't really see it so I took the opportunity and write it down. When you look at your wheel your going to see the wheel size, which this happens to be 16 inches. So this is the most common number people know, most guys are running 16, 17, 18 and sometimes 19 you know it's all in what your choosing and what you want the look of your car to be or how you want it to handle. The next number is how wide the wheel is, so this is not referring to the tire itself it's referring to the wheel, so from here all the way to the other side they are saying its 6 and a 1/2 inches wide. A lot of times people say 6 and a 1/2 J or just 6 and a 1/2, on the wheel it will say 6 1/2 JJ. So that next number like i said all this is printed on the wheel, this number 55 is the offset so that's referring to how far the hub sits from the center of the wheel. So if you want to have a wheel that is more "concave" or a "lip", yes I do know they're making some wheels that have this effect that are not running super low but if you want to get that effect you can get a lower offset wheel. So I said this happens to be 55, so this is 55mm from the center. So it it was 20mm or 10mm the. This hub would be further back and then you'd have the more concave look, so the front face of your wheel will sink in a little bit more where these (the spokes) would be kind of draw in. Now another reason that's important is because when you change the offset your wheel pushes out further from your vehicle. So if you have your wheel here and you wanted to get it flush with your fender then you might need to change your offset or get spacers. If you look at your wheel and you're like "you know if I had 15 millimeters more space then it would be flush with the fender" or "if it was 10 millimeters wider then it would sit just where I would like it to". This particular wheel sits right where I want it to sit, it's my personal taste I like it to fill up the wheel well but I also like the wheel to be as wide as It can get. Now this can also be done by changing the wheel width, but for now we're just talking about the offset. About changing how far the wheel will stick out just form that. Like I said you can use spacers for this, the bolt on one's or the slide on one's. I think the best way is changing the offset depending on your vehicle and what your trying to build. That's all I have for your today this is Ryan from TunerKnowledge have a good day.

So to get a wheel with a "deep lip" the "spokes deep inside the wheel" and not out at the "front edge of the wheel" I would want a "negative - offset number" and not a "plus + offset number"??

also some negative camber will help keep it under the finder, but if you go really wide you may need over fenders because at some point the wheel won't fit

well if you want a wide wheel then your gonna be looking for a lower offset it's not necessarily gonna be negative but it will be closer to 0...and example is 18x11 +28 is wide and deep vs a 18x8 + 45 is not,

2 of my stock wheels on my 2011 impreza 2.5i have flat spots and they are vibrating the hell out of the car. The stock wheels are 16x6.5 +55 i think. Say i went to a 7 inch wheel. What offset will i need? How to adjust to offset when changing width
