This one is for new and prospective owners of the Sega Saturn. Despite game collecting being crazy expensive, there are still plenty of games for you to own on a budget.

Episode Notes:

1. All games captured on real hardware.

2. This list was originally 40+ long. I decided to break it down to keep the runtime in check. Expect a part 2, 3 and 4 in the near future if there is interest.

3. The Japanese market was much larger for the Saturn than anywhere else in the world. Games sold better so there are usually more of them at cheaper prices.

4. I stopped collecting for the US Saturn many years ago. Aside form the cases being a headache, I found I was partial to the Japanese case and disc art.

5. I also did episodes for the expensive games on the Saturn. They can be found at the following links:

You pretty much single handedly got me to start collecting for Saturn. Sega southern gentleman too. I really appreciate your channel

Always find something comforting about the way you say, "I WILL see you next time."

I would absolutely love to see a part 2 of this in the future. This would definitely help out a lot of people who are turned away from collecting for the Saturn because of the absolutely outrageous and ridiculous prices that the North American versions of Saturn games are going for nowadays.

I got my Saturn in Japan in 2006 for crazy cheap. All my games are Japanese, and the most I've paid for one is $60. Here's my collection, all were affordable.

-Nights into Dreams
-Christmas Nights
-Panzer Dragoon
-Panzer Dragoon Zwei
-Saturn Bomberman
-Street Fighter Collection (this was $60, but includes SSFII, SSFII Turbo, and SFZ2 Dash)
-X-Men: Children of the Atom
-Vampire Savior (Darkstalkers 3)
-King of Fighters '95
-King of Fighters '96
-Samurai Spirit III (Shodown 3)
-Virtua Fighter 2
-Fighting Vipers
-Fighters Megamix
-Last Bronx
-Dead or Alive
-Virtual On
-Daytona USA
-Sega Rally Championship
-F-1 Live Information
-Hang On GP '95
-NBA Jam T.E.
-Tokimeki Memorial (fantastic game, but you have to speak/read Japanese to play it)

This is a solid Saturn collection, and the whole thing cost me less than $500.

CD-Rs. To be fair, I was a Saturn collector in the late 90s. I secured pre-orders for all the ‘98 releases... Don’t spend $1000 on PDS - buy Tesla stock instead.

I love my Sega Saturn. Scored "Nights Into Dreams" and a Saturn 3D controller for a good price recently!

Previously had no real interest in Sega's consoles before Dreamcast, but your channel sparked me to buy Saturn, and start collecting games for it. Your opinion on all the matters Sega is invaluable and helped me enjoy my purchases a lot more, including playing games of the genres I previously had no interest in such as Fighters Megamix or Street Fighter Puzzle Turbo 2. Can confirm for anyone just discovering this fine gentleman's content - he KNOWS his stuff. Thank you for helping everyone watching you create new amazing memories or re-live some of the fond ones :)

When I started my Japanese Saturn collection, I paid $8 for X-Men, $3 for Virtua Fighter, $5 for Sega Rally, $10 for Street Fighter Zero...

This video ultimately inspired me to grab the Panzer Dragoon games, along with Fighters Megamix. As we speak, those are coming in the mail. As always, your content is amazing, and it has been a huge inspiration on my Saturn collecting. As difficult as it is, it's also kind of fun if you are able to search for ways to get great games at more affordable prices.

If Sega ever release a Sega Saturn mini and include all those late 97 and 98 Saturn games, It would be such a great seller. A great chance for people to play those ultra rare games.

This was an excellent list I do have a good number of these games already. But some of them that you mentioned I was actually worried of even buying the Japanese version. But now I know it is well within my reach. Thank you again for sharing.

Great list! Several games on the list is also the ones I have had the most fun with, and should be a good base for any Saturn library. I think Athlete Kings, Sega Rally, and Digital Pinball is three great games for playing with friends. Add 2D games of your choice :)
