At 03:22 - I forget to add there are many other things Computer Scientists can do as well, like working on algorithms for social media or targeting consumers... there's lots more than just basic OS stuff 🙂

From what my sources in the IT world have told me, a lot of the math-heavy CS stuff (i.e., Computer Architecture, Discrete Mathematics, Assembler, etc.) isn't extremely lucrative. Unless you want to get a job in FAANG, the Software Engineering degree is probably sufficient for most people, and anything more in-depth you need you can learn from places like Udemy, edx, etc.. Usually, experience and certs are what matters the most anyway, and the bachelor's degree is usually just part of the H.R. checklist.

I thought about majoring in IT, computer science, or cloud computing but ultimately chose the software development program at WGU for the reasons you said, higher starting salaries and a Lil less gate keeping for cloud and security roles.

Great vid, just found your channel a few weeks ago, I'm starting at WGU, Java Track, on the 1st of October. I know they changed the WGU degree to Soft Engineering, where they added multiple Java courses; My question is which language did you learn at WGU/which language did the Development degree focus on?

Currently in the Software Development program and would love to see a video about job prospects straight out of the program. I see a lot of people talking about their job prospects after this, but they knew people or already had experience working in development. Personally I've been getting into development for about a year or two, I've applied to jobs, but never really got anywhere, so I decided to do this. Would love to hear some more about your experience after completing the program!
