Windows 11 Repair Install & In-Place Upgrade.

Today we are looking at a feature in Windows 11 that I just noticed. This may or may not be a new feature but its new to me. Its the ability to do a repair install of Windows 11 with a single button. This is a great resource to easily reload the operating system without loosing programs or data. I also show how to do it manually just in case your version of Windows doesn't have this feature.

Funny you should mention this. After a recent Windows update, my system (Windows 10) would present a black screen with an active cursor after login. You could launch things like Task Manager, msconfigFile Explorer etc from the command line to try to repair it. Turns out that this is a known issue on some system.s After trying all the recommended fixes the last one mentioned is an in place upgrade. This appears to be an option with Windows 10 as well. The "upgrade" worked. New OS install with all apps, files and settings unchanged. Thanks for the video. More people should know about this feature as it is a great way to clean up a misbehaving Windows install.

recently upgraded my PCs from 23H2 to 24H2 using this method. A laptop with 6th generation Intel processor and a PC with 4th generation Intel and TPM 1.2. For these systems the easiest method. So great and thanks!

Win XP could be re-installed on top of a faulty non-bootable installation, simply from a DOS prompt via bootable floppy disk. There's no logical reason (except for Microsoft's unwillingness) that a similar repair install couldn't work for Windows 10 or 11. Just boot the machine using a USB Windows installation thumb drive, navigate to a Command prompt, and commence a repair install. Maybe if they get enough requests for such a feature, they'll reconsider. As far as installing Windows 11 build 24H2 on non-compliant hardware, you can try: extracting the .iso file to the target disk, then navigate to the "Sources" folder, then run from a Command prompt: "setupprep.exe /product server". Note: when downloading the official .iso file from Microsoft, be sure to select the exact same language as the target machine was running before the boot failure occurred.
Also: the free Rufus software is supposed to be working on a feature update that is a new work-around for installing Win 11 build 24H2 on non-compliant hardware.

It would be interesting to see a win 11 bad install vs a re-install via this method with benchmarks. Like how hardware unboxed showed how horrible performance can be on a bad install. To truly see if this method really works or to get that kind of performance boost you’d have to still wipe the drive and re-install

Safe Mode has always been there; just took extra steps to get to. Chris Titus's Utility/Debloat program has a part where you can make it easy to get to again, all built into the program.

Could you boot from Hiren's BootCD, access your C: drive, then either use a ISO already in downloads or copy one from another thumb drive then follow the procedure?

i boot from hdd, and os in sdd, created bootimg using your guide, it caused errors. now i boot from hdd, can this help fix it?

A couple other tech channels have said that using a razor to straighten CPU/socket pins doesn't work on the newest hardware (I believe AM5 and possibly the Intel 13th gen and on) because the pins are much closer together than they used to be.

I've been trying for two days to sort out my issue. I did an in-place upgrade but received the error: We Couldn't Install Windows 11; The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during the BOOT operation.

I preffer the Reset PC option as i once tried the Re-install option and it re-installed my corrupted version and not a new version, the Reset PC option gives you the option to download from the 'Cloud' which is from MS servers and all programs and settings remain untouched
