I buy the smaller, less expensive, sized plants. After all, they’ll grow and it’s so satisfying to watch your new plants grow. Also, make sure to examine the soil and leaves of the new plant before purchasing, just in case it is infected or has pests.

You speak so well to the camera. I also just use cacti soil/perlite/potting mix - no probs with it. Tips: Resist the desire to collect every one in a genus or 'set'. Be happy with lookalikes. Don't keep buying a plant that dies on you. Avoid duplicates just 'cos you love them - propagate instead. Don't buy plants just 'cos they're there and you've never seen one before. Decide if you actually love it. I've bought many a plant I wasn't really into. Forget plant accessories - keep it simple.

I've spent $200 since November ..plants, soil, pots, rocks, STUFF!! but.. I spend more on my outdoor plants in summer. So, thats my Christmas, birthday, valentine's day, and mother's day ...all combined!!

For fungus gnats, I have a yellow tupperware top with a small rim around the edge. I put a shallow layer of vegetable oil on the lid and placed it next to my plant. They were attracted to the yellow and got stuck in the oil. I washed and replaced the oil every day or two.

I would suggest using a flashlight and magnifying glass to inspect all in coming plants for pests. Then quarantine them, in a room by themselves. Continue to check for pests every other day or so. After 7 to 10 days without seeing any pests, the plant can be moved to hang out with your other plants.

Hey Christian, I wanted to suggest to you, that you might want to see if you can connect with youtuber Kaylee Ellen. She also has a plant shop in the UK and might be able to give you some inside pointers. Just trying to be helpful. Have a wonderful week. 🌸

I buy cache pots where ever I find them cheap. All sizes and all materials, ceramic, plastic, wicker, tin, whatever. Then I paint them all the same colour with chalk paint and wax them. Most of them charcoal black, it sets off the green really well. They look great and it ties the plants together.

Thrift planters and houseplant books. Also repurpose household items to add to the experience. Homemade trellises

I like to save my glass spice containers and use them as water propagations.
They look nice. My fave are the spice containers from Trader Joe’s.

I’ll add that you don’t usually think of going to craft stores like hobby lobby or Michaels, but they always have sales on propagation type glasses and planters!

I always check the clearance sections for marked down plants and pots. Sometimes there is a dead plant not worth buying which is sitting in a nice ceramic pot. The pot is worth the buy even when you throw out the plant. Also, I have rescued many marginal plants from the clearance bin. Lastly, if there is a pot with a small chip or blemish I ask for a price reduction. Or, if there is a plant not looking so good which I think is salvagable, I ask for a price reduction. Lowe's is the best place to get clearance items of all kinds. One day 2 weeks ago I was in Lowes and saw that they had tons of plants in a big trash can which actually looked fine to me (other than a few brown tips from incorrect watering). Also, for outdoor plants, I harvest seeds each year and germinate them in the winter for replanting in the yard come spring. Our prescription medicine bottles are the perfect size for holding the dried out seeds until I am ready to start them. They come with a cap and you can write on them easily with a marker to label.
