Yay a corporation got even bigger,  now they can pay less wages to their employees and make them work longer hours!  Woo woo!

I flew United once to save a few bucks and it cost me missed connections, hours lost because of faulty equipment and a confrontation with a surly United desk rep that threatened my safety. I flew American once because I had to and wished I didn't, the Pittsburgh airport is not a great place for an unplanned layover. Delta or SouthWest are the only 2 airlines I use, never late and never an issue with lost luggage.

I am curious what union the pilots will belong to when the merger is complete. Both American Airlines and US Airways pilots are represented by groups unaffiliated with the Air Line Pilots Association.

The discussion is irrelevant. Ticket prices have to increace. Because the Airlines arent not making money ang go Chapter 11 every couple of years. The Investors actually subsidize the tickets. And they will not do this infinity into the future.

Everyone should read "Imperialism, the highest stage of capitalism" by Lenin. Its a very good short read on monopolies and colonialism & neo colonialism. 

Capital can never stop centralizing and in the end big companies and international monopolies always dominate. This recent economic collapse has only increased that development. Instead of making real investments like hiring people, starting new services etc. these companies are instead buying each other. That is because they all have so much excess money but there's no demand for anything so they can't really invest in production. Further, because there are no jobs and people have less money there's less demand so its a vicious cycle once again proving the inability of the profit motive to serve humanity. 

Of course some mergers also happen for completely stupid reasons like the leadership of the company expects the shares to go up if they sell or merge the company so they do it just to get bonuses or money from shares. Just last week Fortum, a big electricity company partially owned by the Finnish state was sold to a private monopoly and there seems to be no logic behind it apart from the right-wings ideological reasons to hate state ownership and that the corrupt leadership just got enormous bonuses from the sale. Electricity prices are bound to sky rocket for us Finns now. Thanks monopoly capitalism.
