Love my X-E4. I was really disappointed in the lack of controls when it came out, but then I realised I didn't need many... so I bought it, and haven't looked back.

I decided on this as my very first camera because of the minimalism. When I was researching other cameras, all the button and dials on them made them kind of intimidating. I didn’t even know the difference between aperture, iso and all these other terms. I bought this camera October of last year (2022) and I bring it with me everywhere. I love it. Since I haven’t handled any other cameras, I dont really feel like I’m missing out on all these extra buttons and dials

Another thing to keep in mind with this underrated little camera is that every C mode that you set from C1 to C7 saves all your settings including focus type and on top of that you have an extra slot for P (Program Mode) where the camera chooses settings. There is also a slot for no settings. So you end up having like 8-9 custom modes you can easily switch between, kind of like the dials on the X-H2 series. If you assign all functions to the screen, the lack of buttons isn’t all that bad!

Ok folks, here's the thing: I upgraded from an X-E2s to the X-E4 and also was afraid I was gonna miss all the buttons etc. but one really doesn't need them all. And all the comments of people who actually have and use the camera support that. The angst is only with those who haven't tried it yet. I was a heavy back button focus user and was so afraid of not having the mode switch but I don't need it. I now use AF almost always because it is really reliable. Even when fishing street photos on a static scene I just set the focus point where I would have prefocused in MF in the past (to make sure focus doesn't get messed up).
Have the focus mode on the top Fn button, ISO on the front dial, jpg settings in Q menu, done. Concentrate on photos not on buttons.
Only thing is the buttons on the X-E4 are a little bit too flush/tiny.

I'm really happy I minimalized from xt3 to xe4. The software options make so up for missing dials and I focus more on the scene. I use the thumb rest and a wrist strap that's basically just a flat waxed shoe lace looped through the lid. I cut it the perfect size so I can let the camera dangle from my hand and when I raise it to my eye the camera and buttons fall naturally into perfect place on their own. Most fun and convenient shooting experience ever!

X-E4 is my everyday camera. It always in my backpack. Most of my IG are all filmed with this camera. I really love its minimalist. One of the most happy purchased I’ve made!

The xe4 is my all time favourite Fuji. I love it. Definately need the thumb rest. The custom settings are great being able to set more functions. Same as how xs10 works. Small light discreet and 😍 🤩 and perfect for me. Great review as always Omar 👏

The flip-screen is by far one of the best implementations of a screen for Fuji… the full flip, where you can see the entire display from the front, even autorotated for you, is amazing for selfies and video

I’m so happy I bought this one. My 10-year old Nikon 1 and lenses were stolen when my studio was robbed this summer. I was so sad because I really loved that camera that everyone else seemed to hate.

I don’t mind the lack of grip because I have little hands, and since I’m coming from Nikon I don’t miss buttons I never had. This is a major upgrade for me and I already love it so much.

Thanks for all the tips, especially about customization. I am having fun trying out different settings. I bought mine with the 23mm f2, but I ordered the 18-55, too. I’m no photographer, but I like taking photos of my work in my studio space, and I miss having a real camera.

Omar,

Some content creators provide awesome info and give off a very genuine warmth, that supersedes the gear they use.

With these individuals, you get the impression that they genuinely care about their audience and that’s a massive thing.

I’ve been following your channel since the early days, but the supportive comment you dropped on a peers video, who openly discussed their trials and struggles over this last year, gave audiences across both channels an opportunity to see a genuinely kind soul.

Good on you, sir. :)

The feel of the XE2 is what makes me go for it instead of the XE4. The idea of having to buy a camera and then spend an extra 100 to 200 on "extras" just to make it feel comfortable to hold... yeah, I'll stick with the XE2 - and I gots all the buttons! 😄

So glad you decided to review this camera. I felt the same about the buttons but I bought it and I don't miss the buttons at all.

I love my xe3 - the size, the controls, etc are all great. I have a strong irrational hatred of the xe4. It feels like it was designed purely to make sure it doesn't eat into sales of other models. Still holding out hope the xe5 will be more like an up-to-date xe3, otherwise it'll be another pass for me.

I sold my x100v for the x-e4 (+18mmf2) and I am very happy with it. I do not miss the x100v at all and I really enjoy the quicker AF of X-E4.

Thanks for sharing. There isn't much love out there for the xe4 but I really love using mine. I prefer the less buttons and just setting up my camera before hand and then focusing on shooting. Anything I need to use I can access from custom buttons or swipe functions. Great little camera. :)

OK Fuji - You have proved that you can make the world's best 18mm f//1.4 lens but it's as big as the x-E4 body! Now the original 18mm f/2 compact lenses are selling for a fortune! What we really need is a replacement 18mm f/2 WR version as a 'pancake' lens for around $400. Oh - and a silver version would be nice!

Never gave the X-E4 a second glance when it was released. I have the X-E2s and X-E3 for my small bodies.

Bought Fujifilm for the knobs and dials, so a camera without them (AF Mode, really???) Is a non-starter. Also, as a left eye shooter, I have disabled all touchscreen functions because my nose would constantly be making some swipe or tap and change things just from viewing through the finder. So touchscreen work-arounds don't work for my shooting.

This video did remind me though... how great is the X-E2? A real pinnacle in the series.

I bought my daughter an X-E3 back in the day because she loved taking photos on her iPhone and I wanted her to have "a real camera". I had an X-T3 but I wound up borrowing hers a lot because of much of what was said in this video. I got one for myself to put in my backpack when I traveled for work (which was a lot) so that I had a good camera with me at all times. But at the end of the day, the improvements in the iPhone camera and the fact that I always have my iPhone in my pocket meant that I sold the X-E3 and put the money toward an iPhone 13 Pro Max. I'm glad I did.

Omar, I always enjoy your photography reviews especially knowing you started shooting on film. Which adds a little more touch towards your approach towards digital photography. Enjoy the summer!

Thx Omar. I'm going to recommend that camera to a friend. Looks like great camera for a coat pocket. A friend said the zoom lens broke on her point and shoot camera; when she was rock climbing. That Fujifilm XE-4 looks perfect for her, and in her budget. I'm shooting a couple of Fujifilm cameras. They're great! Thx again.
