Fittingly, the mp3 one sounds like somthing you'd hear in a flash game from 2006

The visualizer helped a ton to show the differences in how each format handles the square wave - WAV (being uncompressed) simply reproduces the max sum of sines to produce the band-limited waveform, MP3 retains the band-limited characteristics of the waveform but introduces noise and phase changes to the signal, and OGG exhibits heavy harmonics at the point of the square waves' amplitude changes. Very neat!

If you are to do this again, I would like to see some examples of different bitrates (such as 1411kbps, 320, 128, 32, etc.) in the three formats, as well as WAV compression to meet those different bitrates (usually handled by decreasing sample rate as WAV does not have algorithmic compression like MP3, AAC, OGG, etc.).

Eventhough I can hear the difference and it's massive, the wav file will be data compressed by YouTube's compression (.opus) anyway lol (which also means the MP3 and OGG here will also be compressed even more as it's lossy-lossy compression).

It wasn't until listening to this that I learned that the C64 was HEAVILY responsible for the sound of European techno. Probably didn't use an actual C64, but its ability to change square wave duty cycles so finely and quickly downpitch to simulate a drum was replicated by (then) modern tools and programs.

FLAC is better, same quality as WAV, takes significantly less storage space.
