MP3 vs M4A vs OGG vs WMA (Ultimate Comparison)

All bitrate files are 320kbps (except OGG which is 500kbps)
My opinion from Best to Worst is:
- M4A (AAC Apple) = Best but only with iTunes
- M4A (AAC Nero) = Very Good and only need is encoder plugin (*link below*)
- MP3 (Adobe) = Good but above from 16kHz is lossy (some people can't hear due to hearing loss or due to old age)
- MP3 (FL Studio) = Good but audio levels are not stable which means maybe you will have clips/little distortion at -1dB, it uses cutoff 20kHz but you don't have too much loss audio from 16kHz
- OGG (Vorbis) = Not good anymore, its only good for low bitrate
- WMA (Standard) = Bad Overall ,bad quality and file size is same as MP3-M4A

A = MP3 320kbps, more bitrate = more amount of data.

Q = I have MP3 files at 128kbps, can i convert to M4A 320kbps ??
A = You can but its waste of time because re-encoding from lossy source file will not increase audio quality because information data audio is already lost due to compressed and you cant recover. The only solution is find lossless audio files (WAV/FLAC/APE) and then convert to M4A 320kbps.

Q = Is there good lossy format with smallest file size possible ??
A = Yes but its not recommended. The codec is AAC Plus (HE-AAC) optimized for low bitrates and designed for Speech/Internet Radio.Ιt uses SBR (Spectral Band Replication) which means it generates a fake top end treble response. File size will be ~1.5MB for 3 minutes music at 64kbps but you will have bad detail audio.

It's hard to really judge a format by looking at it on a spectrogram. Differences in what you see don't necessarily equate to differences in what you can hear, blind tests are usually used to measure these instead. Still interesting to see what the different formats do to audio though.

I'm a bit of a music whore and I'm trying to find the perfect file size to get relatively good audio, and I'm not sure if there's a more efficient file size, all I need is *a lot* of hours with audio relative to spotify's normal setting for audio quality (it says it's ~96 kbps, I think 90 to be exact for me) I need just enough time to last me until I can get a bigger SD card for christmas and/or stop being a bum and get a job to buy myself my own SD card, I'll give you more information if you need it

So for downloading from YouTube with best possible audio, since YT uses Opus with more than 128k, is it better to get the original Opus and make that MP3 320kbps or original M4A with 128k? Any software recommendations? Thanks!
