When it comes to Gunn’s Superman in the overall DCU, I don’t think that movie is going to be a massive hit. DC has far too much damage to its brand for that movie to NET Warner Bros. Discovery a lot of money, even if the movie is great. I think the DCU is going to have to put out a few solid, well done films to really get general audiences and even more seasoned audiences to show up to their movies. But if those first couple DCU films aren’t rock solid, then the brand might have to be shelved for several years. Now with The Batman Part II, because it’s a sequel to a great Batman movie that made over $700 million, I think it’ll do fine and if it’s great, then the DC brand could go up a bit. I love DC and only want the best for the brand, it’s such a punching bag at this point that I hope James Gunn, Peter Safran and their team are hungry to deliver a great DC continuity. We’ll see in a couple years if these are the last hope for DC.

I agree Sean. I think DC just had another hit with The Penguin! Looking forward to Superman and The Batman Part 2

Superman just needs to be good. It doesn’t have to make a billion dollars. And then afterwards WB just needs to back off and let James Gunn do his thing

One thing is for sure if Superman Legacy flops, don’t expect WB to make any DC shared universes…they will just go back to making solo Batman / Superman movies like they used to, and save other characters for tv or streaming services

Simply put the characters are too legendary for this to be a “last hope”. We’ve had three different Jokers in the last ten years, three Batmen in the last fifteen years, and now three Supermen in the last 20 years. That’s not even including TV versions of all those characters, that’s just film versions. Like you said if it goes to hell they’ll just take a break and try again later, like they always have.

I truly have a hard time envisioning Superman being bad, especially after all the information that Gunn has shared.

These characters have lived longer than most all people. I have no doubt they’ll be back in movies, they live in the hearts and minds of too many people

I don’t think Superman is going to be bad at all.

Supes2025 doesn't have to make a billion dollars, it NEEDS to be good. A kickstart to the DC heart.

Sadly, Joker 2 dropped the ball, and by association affects Legacy. But Penguin has been performing miracles and we have to hope CC continues the train.

I thibk you're mostly right, but it's worth remembering that trends go in cycles. Sure, we'll still get comic book movies, but at some point, we're not going to live in a world where we get like 6-8 new comic adaptations because enough of the taste of the normies will jjst move on to something else, and the last 5 years of the comic adaptation trend has been killing that interest. Personally, i hope that wien that day finally comes, we'll still at least get 2 or 3 every year like we did in the early 00s at the beginning of the comic adaptation phase. The silver lining is that we'll eventually get to a point in its popularity cycle that the grifters and activists won't be interested in making these movies anymore, so the only people who will still make them will be the people with genuine creative vision and appreciation for their projects again.

Sean has a bad take here, if The Batman 2 and Superman bomb. Warner Brothers can't keep losing that much money.

Joker 2 was made to waste money. The Matt Reeves Batman movies are going to be their own separate line. Gunn's doing his own Batman later.
