"Sweeney" is short for "Sweeney Tod, " which was rhyming slang for flying squad. If he of all people did'nt know that then that is crazy!

Two of the greatest shows British television ever produced. Waterman was a terrific actor and although he was great in Minder his role of Terry was somewhat overtaken by Arfur! But he excelled in The Sweeney and was the perfect foil for John Thaw. I still watch both series with great enjoyment and one is struck at just how good the scripts are and the naturalness of the acting.
