as a proffesional welder, car mechanic and former car pneumatic & industrial maker i can assure you that this is not ideal. pressure washing the engine, no matter what you cover up will prolong rust development in the undercarriage area due to cheap materials often being used (thinner materials). most car’s have tectyle solutions applied to the undercarriage but not on the upper part (up meaning towards engine bay) which makes pressure washing the engine not ideal. instead use an APC solution with a microfiber cloth to clean the top part of the engine. use an airpistol with good air pressure to dry everything off and get any dust off the mechanics under the top section of the engine.
