Edit: Part 2 of this riff is up now!

The guys over at @rsdrumsofficial were kind enough to send over their new Fairview kit for me to test out. I threw it in this riff and it sounds incredible. Can't wait to throw it into some more mixes and dive a bit deeper. What do you think?

Guitar: Aristides 060R with Bareknuckle Silos
Tones: Neural DSP Fortin Cali
Bass: Sandberg Cali w/Neural DSP Parallax
Drums: RS Drums Fairview

For everyone asking to hear this riff in a lower tuning, I redid it in drop F# on my 7 string!
Also, there's now a "Proof that E standard is heavy" so go check that out too!

I honestly love drop d more than any other tone. Coming from classic piano, Most of the time it isn’t about being heavy to me, it’s about the notes and tones.

The sound of the 90s for me was the sound of a low e string being dropped to D. I thought I was a guitar god when I discovered it

I love drop D i think its so versatile! Used drop b for ages literally cause i was in a band and that was what they wanted, but may revert back to my 2008 Asking Alexandria days

Proof that heaviness is result of writing, if it ain't heavy now it wont be heavy lower.

Lots of people talk about the note choice but production in my opinion is just as big of a factor. Lots of "djent in higher tunings" type videos have very thin/weak/nasally tones, but this mix sounds huge without distracting from the higher tuning, which in my opinion the higher tunings have a cool unique attack compared to lower ones which are used quite often. This mix still has a good amount of bottom end (to my ears) and the tones are amazing. Thanks for convincing me to stay in drop d so I can do less setup work lol

heavy is in how you write, not in how low you tune

lamb of god has been playing in drop d most of their career and I think most people would agree that their riffs (at least back in the AOTW era) were heavy as hell... great gateway metal band

Very nice riffing!
Edit:
Oh yeah drop d is absolutely heavy, it depends how much Heavy is the RIFF.
Remember that "Rammstein" by Rammstein is in E standard tuning, and is still one of the heaviest riffs ever made : )

Tunings have little to do with heavy it’s just the riff.

If anyone wants to listen to a band that is heavy and has insane prog noodling and riffs in Drop D, The Helix Nebula is your band.

If I’m not mistaken Gojira’s album ‘To Sirius’ was all (or at least partially) done in drop D, and Sikth’s song ‘Bland Street Bloom’ only had the low E tuned to C#. That was enough to convince me from a young age that it’s not about how low you go, it’s about how you utilize your tools.

Nice playing!!

Everything is heavy with a good bass sound

Creativity/Riff writing vs tuning isn't even a fair fight tbh.
