Finally US Tests The New Super A10 Warthog

The A-10 Warthog or Thunderbolt II is the most legendary aircraft throughout decades of combat operations. In 2014, the USAF saw the first attempt to completely retire the A-10 to save $3.7 billion across the five-year future-year defense program and another $500 million in cost avoidance for upgrades. Bet, they wanted to support new F-35 squadrons. Fast forward to 2022 and the A-10 is not only here to stay, but it’s getting a raft of upgrades to keep it relevant for years to come. So let’s find out what features make the “Hawg's” tusks sharp.

Would've liked to see more about the actual upgraded A-10 then a rundown of the old.

The cannon doesn't "sit in front of the aircraft." That's just where the rounds exit. The cannon basically is the entire aircraft. Infantry has a fun saying, "If you hear an A-10's gun, it's shots weren't meant for you." The rounds hit the ground before the sound hits observers.

Thought this was about an upgraded version of the A-10.
Do not get me wrong. I love a good close ground support aircraft as the A-10 is.

4:45 - Nope, the A-10 is not a "Dogfight Winner", nor is it a dogfighting aircraft. It's big, heavy, and was designed for close ground support. Yes, it can carry sidewinder missiles and shoot them from far away but it has little chance against your garden variety MiGs that are much faster, more maneuverable, and can evade or engage the A-10 from far away.

I hope they NEVER retire that plane. It's a fantastic plane!

Small correction, it does not have 'anti-explosive' foam. It has ballistic foam which is good for catching some small arms and shrapnel. The secondary function of the foam is to help mitigate fuel leaks.

I was an A-10 crew chief for the 74th and 75th Fighter Squadrons. They also have two hydraulic systems and one cable system. Those beasts are designed to take a beating and fly back to their bases.

I was in the USAF for six years and I got to sit in the warthog back in 1980 or so and I fell in love with it and I am so glad they are keeping it updated

A simple correction, at about 2:48, it was stated the plane has a capacity of 10, 000 gallons. it should be about 10, 000 lbs =~1500 gallons

I live in Tucson AZ, home of Davis Monthan AFB. I see these marvelous fighters take to the skies and fly over my neighborhood. Just the other day I saw a squadron of them in formation. What a site. Hope to God they never retire the A-10. Is the right plane at the right time and had been proven effective!
Go Warthog!

As EX Military all I can say is the A-10 Wart Hog saved me ass many times. they are an amazing plane and for how cheap that they built them they fitted them with everything that was needed, they can keep up grading them and keep them in service forever as they can do things the high tech Super jets cannot do! The Military would be crazy to get rid of them ! The A-10's are all American Hero's !

Love the A-10, my favorite military aircraft. I was shocked when I heard they may retire it. I was hoping they just had an upgrade coming. It's a freedom saver, in my opinion.

Love that A10. I was a USAF Crew Chief 1975-1995 and worked on some amazing aircraft. Only one regret. I never got to turn a wrench on the A10.
There is nothing like the sound of a Warthog spraying bullets. Absolutely nothing.

I thank all the heroes of the US Air Force, especially the pilots on these planes, because they saved me several times in the battles to liberate Mosul, and this beautiful plane saved my life in all its combat flights in the months 5 and 6 of 2017. The Iraqi captain at the time in the 1st Special Operations Regiment in the Iraqi Rapid Intervention Forces

Served with the 82 Airborne Infantry regiment, and we used to say that they were our grunt brothers from the skies. These machines are awesome and so are the pilots. Saved our butts numerous times.

I really enjoyed this video. It might have some accuracy issues, but overall a great overview of the A-10. My father was an Aeronautical (Mechanical) Engineer who worked on the design of the Control Systems of the A-10. He was so very proud of that aircraft.

I was fortunate to be based at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Az in the early 70’s when this beast was being tested. It has become legend and will not give up easily, the lives it’s saved in close support are well documented, it’s legend lives on today 🇺🇸

Me too! Everytime i meet an A-10 pilot I just give them a hug. I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for A-10s and Apaches.
