The A-10 Warthog, officially designated as the A-10 Thunderbolt II, has a rich history of service in the United States Air Force. From its inception during the Cold War to its continued relevance in modern conflicts, this aircraft has consistently proven its worth on the battlefield.

John McCain really hated it and tried to kill it multiple times. Air Force senior brass hated it because it wasn't a "sexy" streamlined fighter. Most of the pilots who flew them and still do, appreciate the titanium bathtub and ability to loiter and see the ground troops their protecting. There was talk of giving them to the Marines and Army.

Just because it doesn’t have jet engines, afterburners and/or doesn’t reach Mach 1, it’s still a very battle-worthy aircraft. One of my favourite aircraft, EVER!

Edit: some people are getting confused, so let me clear up ANY confusion. Ive only been in the UK for a couple of years so sometimes I don’t know basic words. I what I meant by jet engines is engines with afterburners that can go Mach 1 or faster that you can see on fighter jets ;)

As a former Grunt I cannot begin to tell you the joy us ground pounders felt when we heard the buuuurp! Of the A10's main gun! Especially when we were pinned down and needed air support its presence on the field automatically improved our morale we knew we had all the back up we needed!

Crossed a clearing to stay hidden.. one of these came over us..

Very doubtful there ever will be an Aircraft that can do the job as well as the A-10...
