Video games and violence? Jordan Peterson #shorts #jordanpeterson

Jordan B. Peterson questions the point that children, who engage in video games that portray violence are more likely to manifest such behaviour in reality. He states that the actual cause is the absence of in real life situated play with other kids.

Do you agree with the psychologist?

He’s basically saying that if you have a violent 2yr old. They grow out of that violence by playing with other kids. If that is interrupted (because they’re always in front of a screen), then they might not grow out of it.
It’s not the game/tv thats making them violent, it’s the lack of interaction with other kids.

I like that he isn't blaming the violent games for violent outcomes, but rather saying children with violence issues who are satisfied with a screen will never grow out of their issues because the problem was never addressed.

It wasn’t childhood video games that made me violent, it was the violence my parents inflicted upon me that did that.

Fatherlessness is also a contributor to violence in boys especially, who often develop into violent men. Fathers often include rough-housing in play, which helps boys learn to manage their anger and aggression to acceptable levels. Without a father, these boys are less likely to learn that skill early on, which makes it harder for them to learn later. It seems like playing with other kids can help boys learn better impulse control and such as well, though it might be to a lesser extent if they don't have a father. With both a father and uninterrupted play with peers, young boys have the best chance to be able to manage their aggressive impulses.

Every Saturday morning I used to watch the incredibly violent “LooneyTunes”. I didn’t grow up to be violent or a criminal.

We have two entire generations out and about who were raised like the cable guy.
With social media added on that. That'll have consequences.

Screens? So let me see if I got this right... It is the interaction with other real children that helps children overcome the propensity for violence. Those who feed the propensity with more violent content whether television or video game, may not have the social interactions needed to learn to deal with people in other ways.

As a teacher in pubic school I always thought there should be a period for the children to play board games. Unlike video games you have to learn to play fairly with other children. if you don't you end up with no playmates. Playing with other children teacher you how to act socially.

Right. It's just what the lawyers have them say in order to get a certain plea in court. Not the be confused with the truth.

Peterson is saying that young children who have a tendency to violence will become more violent if they fail to engage in physical social interaction.

I played violent video games as a child. This was during the 80s when computers were not as common in the home. I am not a violent person as a result. I did have parents that taught morals and watched cartoons, for example, He Man that also discussed morals.

Games are actually healthy for the mind, if done right

Can anyone tell me where the original video for this clip is?

That's because children who play with other children learn boundaries rather quickly. Ever seen 2 small kids get into a row over a toy, they can be brutal. And usually a parent will put an end to the nonsense.
