Caltopo is a free mapping tool that helps you create great high quality topographic maps. With Caltopo you can create routes and waypoints for your next backpacking or backcountry hiking adventure.

In this video tutorial, I will show you how to import and export data into and out of Caltopo. You will learn how to create GPX and KML files that can be used on your Suunto or Garmin GPS device. You will also learn how to import into GaiaGPS via their web interface and the smartphone app via Dropbox. Finally, you will learn how to import data from various web resources to be used on your Caltopo map.

i had a top bar in caltopo just like yours, caltopo, add, import, export, measure etc. hadn't used it to export maps for a couple years. when i opened caltopo a couple days ago that 'top bar' is gone and a small import/export tab is beneath the caltopo emblem with export grayed out. any ideas what happened.

@Outside Chronicles I can't find your third video on CalTopo. Can you advise if you made it?

Great video. I have about 1300 locations marked on google maps on a very large area, 500/300km (300/180 miles). So I can just import the KML from google maps into Caltopo and then plan my route there? Does offline maps work well with Caltopo, i've read there might be some issues with layers when zooming. Should I use Gaia instead?
