The voices never stop. The trick is making sure they help you along and don't bring you down.

Baker, then recycling, then logistics, then took a risk and ended up in trade work. Literally went back and finished college so I could get a desk job just to find I abhor desk jobs. Now I sweat my ass off on 12hr overnights and have the best job satisfaction I've ever felt

I think part of it is that a lot of people genuinely just struggle to live on any starting wage. The wall is higher than the ladder given and all that

“Unless you’re selling crack rock, or got a wicked jump shot”

This phrase has been guiding me for 30 years now

I like the extra black rubber head gear device. It adds the perfect touch of crazy and funny 😂

Great advice. My only issue is that the modern economy is weird at best. Used to be you could pick up a phone book, cold call until you got an interview, which usually consisted with a conversation and some demonstration of you skill: build a sawhorse or identify a piece of mounding.
Nowadays, it's just websites and dead ends.

As a machinist who makes 50ish thousand a year, i can live comfortably enough, even with the economy in the shambles it is, and save money. I still have room within my job to make more. And i never went to college or a trade school, i simply looked for an opening with a massive firm and found one that was hiring while they were (and are) still trying to fill backorders from the pandemic (I love aerospace). Dont be afraid to not make the best wage, you often can make enough to live on, even if you cant be slinging the big bucks every day. Spend wisely and make every dollar count. Praying for y'all

You're having a lot of fun with that straight jacket 😂

The “not getting comfortable” is the hardest part. Most large companies look for people that can get comfortable where they are. It’s great for their bottom line but terrible for the wellness of the employee. If I had it to do over again, I would have stayed with the smaller companies that appreciated their employees and saw success for their people as a good thing even if that meant they had to move on.

I started at $10 an hr as an electrian apprenticeship in 1994. I'm now making $75 an hr running my own company. Hard work pays off

In 1971 the minimum wage was 1.60/hr. Gold cost $35.00/ounce. A minimum wage earned had to work approximately twenty five hours to purchase an ounce of gold. Today the wage would need to be about $90.00/hr for equivalent purchasing power.

This is advice I’ve been given a lot, especially for people working in tech. Every year, try and find a new job. The skills you get from your old job will carry you higher and you’ll end up making more than the same shmuck who sticks around for the brand.

The real question I’m wondering is where to find the first job tho, because I feel like that only works if whatever job I’m getting is relevant to whatever field I’m going in. And all the entry level jobs I’m finding take 2-3 years experience I don’t have or a masters degree.

Every word of that was true. Even the voices part.

Seems like the norm nowadays for companies to not give raises. I’ve doubled my annual income in the last decade, but pretty much only through changing positions every 2 years.

Perhaps not the point of your video, but also probably pretty important. I found myself defending my minimum wage job that I had for two years saying that I wanted it because it was "interesting" and I was "learning useful things"
Both true but absolutely excuses for why I wasn't applying to better paying jobs.
Change is hard and I needed a few good shoves before I properly put effort into my resume.
So glad I finally did.
That whole you get comfortable statement hit me real hard because I didn't realize it at the time, but I do now.

I’m a licensed Electrician and see far too many people offering advice to get into the trades to people that shouldn’t be getting into the trades.

I’m still earning the same money I was 20 years ago. My parents (baby boomers) paid off their house in 10 years. It cost them 1 years pay back then. I considered just retiring at 50 and becoming a homeless person, I’m still deciding.
