Insane MPG and great price. But is it worth the hybrid premium?

Toyota Corolla's first ever hybrid makes a strong case thanks to its 52 MPG combined.

I get around 55-57 mpg. I drive 160 miles a day. About 98% highway. 62mph is the sweet spot on Cruise control. The engine turns off and uses the hybrid mode when it’s level ground or down hill. When not using cruise control you can use the electric motor alone with the engine off, up to 70 mph BUT you have to be progressive with the gas pedal. I bought mine in July 2021, I already have 15, 000 miles! No regrets. I get about 550 miles per tank. Only has a 10 gallon gas tank.

I love mine ! I purchased my 2020 Corolla Hybrid January 2020 used for 19k
- I love all the bells and whistles but I love saving on gas even more !!! So this hybrid is a winner in my book

I put my first 200 miles on one yesterday and it is SO smooth! I’m a low maintenance girl who doesn’t need heated seats or leather anyway. The dealership gave it to me for the price they paid for on their invoice 😀 good thing I use Apple!

Great review, good level of detail, I’m buying this car in silver from my bro for 15k and only 4, 000 miles.

Great video. Thank you so much! I helped me realize that I don't need a hybrid because I drive 10k miles per year only.

You said it takes 6.5 years to reach the break-even point when comparing the hybrid to the regular LE, how did you calculate that number? First of all, you should compare it to regular LE with the $2, 000 Premium Package. This is because the hybrid has several additional premium features like the triple J LED headlights, alloy wheels, smart entry system with push button start, upgraded 7 inch driver info display, driving modes etc.

Remember guys, the higher gas prices go, the faster the Corolla Hybrid's price premium will be amortized. If gas goes up to $4.5/gal it will take only a little over 4 years for the Corolla Hybrid to start being more economical than the regular Corolla.

Here in Colombia we also get a higher trim with leather, android auto (this one also in the base version), sunroof, temporary spare tire, soft touch materials, 2 zone climate control, the thingy in the rear camera view when you move the steering wheel, etc. No blind spot camera though.

The hybrid is worth it because if you break even in 6 years, and you get a 6 year loan (common these days), it's the same amount spent per month. At the end you have a reliable, proven drive train that uses less gas and is smoother.

Good video! These cars are really interesting after all, even though it´s not a Volvo :) Keep up the good work!

We just brought this right hand drive Australia it has spare tyre and the interior is different from this video it has leather accents. As so has good power overtook cars on the highway no problem goes good over 100kph. And has a wireless charger built in on centre console

Great video. I drive 11.6 miles a day 6 days a week to work and back. That's about 3.6k miles a year. Better yet @ $3/gallon that is about $200+/year just for work alone.

Nice video. Got mine in 9/2019. For me, i don't care about "breaking even $" point yaliyada blahblahblah, I just want to burn as little f**king gas as possible. Next car will be EV for sure.

Will we see an updated review for the 2022 version with the premium package? It seems to make the interior more upscale and it would be good to hear your thoughts

If you're going to do a break-even analysis, you cannot just consider the cost of gas. Compared to the regular Corolla, maintenance will be lower and, because hybrids are better at retaining value, depreciation will be lower.

I say it's the most knowledgeable and comprehensive review and the least pretentious. New subscriber here, keep up with your good work!
