I love the 808s iconic cowbell sound. Sounds nothing like an actual cowbell.

I once brought my 808 to a local music store to test some monitor speakers. Suddenly people were filling the speaker corner because they were attracted by the killer sounds of the 808 from the real machine. Especially the kick sound with it's endless boom.

The cymbal sound was created when one of the chief designers spilt a drink on it causing the 808 to make a pssh sound. They spent months trying to remake it.

Love how he gets so into it it’s like he forgets he’s making a video

I'm always surprised about how big an 808 is. It's huge and love how it's made out of metal. Probably why it still works and sounds great 35+ years later.

A TR-808, A Juno-60 and a DX-7.
A synth wave recipe made in 80s heaven.
You don't even need a Moog.

Once you know the 808 sounds, you hear them everywhere in electronic music.
I use an emulator myself.

I love the clap sound so much, makes its way into many of songs even when it doesnt have other 808 sounds

his body movement is like a retired cha cha dancer when he's at home.

Nice video and demonstration, look forward to the next one.

I love the whole story of the 808. It's original purpose was to replicate a drum kit, but it sounds _nothing_ like a drum kit. However, for that precise reason, it inspires a whole generation to experiment and it becomes famous in its own right. What's not to love?

I had a couple of 606s and 808s and still have memories of being in the studio back in the 80s.

Here because Hi-Fi Rush made a cat called 808 apparently sound like an 808 and I have never heard of an 808 before.

It feels like there is no other drum sound in the world on the radio at the moment! The 808 drum sound will probably still be in commercial music in 100 years time. I'm surprised it hasn't popped up in a time travel movie yet!

It doesn't sound like real drums at all. This will never catch on ;)

You can hear the TR-808 prominently throughout the soundtrack for the first _Animal Crossing_ of all places; then again, that same soundtrack also has at least two homages to "Simoon" by Yellow Magic Orchestra, the very first band to adopt the 808 in the first place (their 1981 album _BGM_ in fact was the first to use it, and it's a *very* prominent feature of the music within).

The Roland Rhythm Composer TR-808 is nicknamed "8 (ya) 0 (O) 8 (ya) (a greengrocer in Japanese)" among Japanese musicians and music lovers.
For reference only.
I'm sorry if I knew. (I can't speak English, so it's Google Translate)
by Kakura Hayachine.
