Have been in IT for decades but your videos always brings a smile to my face hearing how you excitedly explain what to many are seriously complex systems or IT issues in such an easily understandable way. Thank you.

Love the T-Shirt. I've been crawling around the attic pulling and terminating data cables so that wire order is seared into my brain.

TrueNas own Docker Implementation outside from the App Store(Custom Apps) comes with RC1(Should be End of September). I think it comes with Docker Compose possibility

What you said at the end is exactly why im here.
Been on TrueNAS Core since FreeNAS 9.2 but with the "Death" of FreeBSD TrueNAS im looking to hop to TrueNAS Scale.
Frankly since i only really use it as a NAS what Dragonfish offers would be enough, but im intrigued with the idea of moving a couple of bare metal PCs in my homelab to either docker containers or VM's on TrueNAS Scale Electric Eel.

Great video. Raidz expansion is awesome and to answer a question you asked in the video, you can load dockge or portainer and use them to install containers outside the app interface in SCALE.

Can't wait for the expansion and dedup vids

When I'm home from holiday, i will upgrade. That zfs expansion is something I searched for a few weeks ago. I'm happy it came

Nextcloud also seems to not be working anymore coming from the previous version and rollback seems to not be possible so be aware!

Thanks IX and trunas - After going through like 5 revisions of scale, Docker was in, then docker was out, then We're going full on Kubernetes and then only K3, and apologies but a fairly rudimentary catalog system, I think this is the best choice at least for home users. Enterprise, well not sure, but the Enterprise market needed it to 100% stable and it wasnt really ready . Proxmox was ready and is and was about to be my next option for home lab, but this seems what I need to replace TN core

ZFS expansion is interesting. I will probably stay on mirror vdevs in production anyway, but expansion capabilities will come handy on backup NASes

Excellent news for TrueNAS. ZFS expansion is something I think everyone has been hoping for for a while. I wonder how hard it will be to migrate existing apps from k3s to docker.

I am looking forward to your deep dive on the expansion stuff.

Thanks Tom!!! I really like these changes!! Can't wait for it to eventually go to stable/live as I don't really want to subject my only zfs pool to it yet... :)

I'm really looking forward to playing with docker compose in TrueNAS, I had been avoiding the whole Kubernetes thing.
I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't a UI for just loading your existing docker compose yml config (from what I saw in the video), but as long as I can still do that through portainer I'll be happy.

This looks cool. Can you launch docker compose stacks on this new version? Or is that via the command line?

TrueNAS is my backup so I'm waiting for the stable version, but I'm excited about the changes.

The first thing I noticed when trying Electric Eel is how much more responsive the UI is. Unlocking datasets is significantly faster too, from taking 10+ seconds to just a couple. I wonder what they did to make it perform better, interesting. Maybe it's less of a difference on more modern hardware but at least with my old CPUs (2x 2697 v2) it's very noticeable.

69th!

Perfect timing! Been wanting to migrate my scale k3s apps over to a new host, but wanted to wait for the Docker support. Thanks for the updates, Tom!

Hey Tom, do you plan on doing a docker tutorial for truenas, once eel releases, covering how to get a container from docker hub and deploy it on truenas? Ive never played with it before and your tutorials are the easiest for me to follow!!

I've only recently been getting my feet wet in TrueNAS so i wont be playing with the Beta, but im liking the new Dashboard. I've thought the current was was kinda limited on the information it was showing. The search function will come in SUPER handy.
