Thanks for the video. Bummer performance is so much lower but for my little home box having an easier time for docker is a huge benefit

This is good stuff. thank you. i already have a bunch of jails that i have to recreate but i also have a bunch of VM's so until someone tests that i am staying on TCore

Thank you for covering this.

As you mentioned though, not surprising when they're switching from the FreeBSD code base to the Debian Linux code base.

Well done lad like video i was thinking of scale performance gains if any or many over core so have to wait a bit longer for candidate release so or try the scale nightly with view anything can be blown away. my suggested system dell r720xd 12 bay with x number 10tb drives and possible 1 tb nvme drive ( maybe few more these can be added in ?) bucket of ram anyhow very appreciate of your videos on truenas core and scale happy testing

WOW....I was really surprised by those results. I wonder if they hold true for enterprise gear.

Funny you mention video games, I sometimes have the same feelign, playing around getting thing to work is like a game, but more satisfying if you get to the next level ;-)

Wow that is indeed a huge difference, I'm kind of surprised it would even be past alpha with performance that bad.

One area I found that Scale shines is being virtualized on XCP-NG; I virtualize my NAS using passthrough disks, and have found Scale to be much faster than Core in this setup. I'm chalking this up to better Linux support in XCP than FreeBSD.

really interested in the scale aspect as i understand the somewhat dynamic expansion of a pool? what other software can do this? i've seen videos of exsi or something like that and more recently read gluster ceph and kubernetes combo

Any updates on truenas scale rc 22.01 1-2 update like if it has a strong docker and smb and other normal things working flawlessly now with the rc?

Rclone drive mounting will work with it I'm guessing since it can run the newer non-bsd version

Those results do indicate a significant drop in performance. Was the truenas core install based off a completely clean install, ie no tuning performed. It might have also been interesting to see the performance on the nas itself that way we could see if the drop in performance relates to the change in zfs implementation or iscsi/nfs implementation. That being said I’d guess that the given both iscsi/nfs are both slower that it’s either has to do with kernel or zfs change. Perhaps Ix systems is running a logger on the beta software so to catch any bugs and/or ensure recoverability

Are there feature updates available for your pools, that may impact performance in any way?

If I have a TrueNAS Mini for storage and a two separate compute nodes in my home lab, and a simple webapp/postgresql db workload, what points should I consider when deciding between these setups?:
1. DB on Mini, app on node 2
2. DB on node 1 with db file in iSCSI mount from Mini, app on node 2
3. DB on node 1's own ZFS pool with 1min snapshots sent to Mini, app on node 2

How did you manage to land in TN Core GUI after upgrade in the previous video?

Would love to w what your system you tested on was, I’m looking to plan my first truenas build, but have no idea on the hardware required to support my goals

Very interesting and informative. Can you please test SMB performance?

Hi. You should do a new video about Synology Vs TrueNAS Scale :-) I mean, now that scale 22 is stable.

Have you tested SMB? I’m about to build my first NAS for SMB only and unsure if scale or core is best.

I would love if TrueNAS can do local replication to another storage pool within the storage.
