C-5M Super Galaxy military aircraft in action, the largest aircraft in the US Air Force. The Lockheed C-5 Super Galaxy is a large military transport aircraft designed and built by Lockheed, and now maintained and upgraded by its successor, Lockheed Martin. It provides the United States Air Force (USAF) with a heavy intercontinental-range strategic airlift capability, one that can carry outsized and oversized loads, including all air-certifiable cargo. The C-5 Super Galaxy has many similarities to the smaller Lockheed C-141 Starlifter and the later Boeing C-17 Globemaster III. The C-5 Super Galaxy is among the largest military aircraft in the world.

During an exercise in '76 I was part of a team that loaded our Bn equipment for movement to SC we worked around the clock in two shifts. The biggest thrill was loading 6 OTC semi trailers into one of the C-5's. the trailer tops were about 6 inches from the fuselage and about the same between. Overall we did 6 C-5, about 27 C-141 and around 120 C-130's during the 72 hour period out of DMAFB.

Started out what ended up being a 36 year career working on the C-5. 8 years active duty and another 28 years working civil service as a civilian employee of DOD. Worked as a pneudraulic tech my entire career. Had opportunities to move into other things along the way. But between the enjoyment of troubleshooting problems and the constant travel opportunities I chose to stay in the field. I moved up, but not out of the field. The C-5 is an amazing aircraft. No matter how many times I flew on it or just watched it lift slowly into the air. It never cease to amaze me that something that BIG could even fly!

I’m just at awe every time I see a video of these giants. It’s just freaking amazing seeing such large airplanes gracefully taking off and landing.

Flew on these big birds several times during my career and they also got me there and back home safe. The loadmaster’s job is both challenging and rewarding. GO AIR FORCE!!!!

My father was the flight engineer for the C-5A back in the 70’s. I can remember climbing around in the C5 while he did maintenance on the plane. When you go out on the wing you know how big it is.

I'm a Air Force veteran. I was stationed at Clark AB Philippines
1986- 1989 .My squadron was 374 FMS . I worked in A.G.E.
this video brings back memories. The C-5 is my favorite cargo plane. I find it amazing when it takes off and lands. And the engines sound great

I work at an airport, many years ago had one of these, not sure which variant, come in. Got to watch them load the cargo, and the crew gave me & some of my co-workers a tour of the cockpit area. It was quite an experience and an honor to do so. Mind you this was pre 9/11, they may not be as willing to do that now, but back then they didn't mind because they had pride in their aircraft, and wanted to show her off. 😁 I have also seen the Antonov An-124, and the An-225 before it was destroyed.

All I can say (as a GA pilot) seeing that magnificent C-5M Super Galaxy, is WOW! That is one giant bird! Thank you, USAF, for keeping our Country safe! Now, in my dotage, I look back at my life and if I had it all to do over again, I wouldn't change my medical career, but I probably would have tried to enlist in the USAF, but my parents would have never let me leave school!

I used to weld the TF-39 engine blades hard facing at chromalloy, huge blades! The sound of those engines are a trip. The engineering involved of the construction of it to carry all that weight is incredible.

We had these fly into Los Alamitos Air Reserve Base in So Cal all of the time. Finally made enough connections to actually go inside one after it was empty. That is one big SOB.

I'll never forget my shock as a Flight Nurse (1970-71) in C141 after landing at Dover AFB exiting, walking around nose & parked next to the new C5 with it's nose open. Wow, humongous plane right in front of me !! "What is that"? I stood stunned for about a minute.

I liked seeing the C5 taxi past a C130. The size difference between the two planes. Wow!

Worked on the C5 Galaxy for 7 years loved every day I was there. Flew all over the world in them, rides just like a Cadillac in the sky, best money US government spent on an aircraft 😃😃😃🤩🤩👍👍

I got a tour of one when I was first assigned to work on these (communication/navigation technician) & it blew my mind how big these are. That was 1996 & it still blows my mind. They look slow flying because they so big. Looks like they're going 30 mph but more like 300. I stood up in the engine & had to reach up to touch the top of it. Rear tail is 65 feet up. You climb a ladder inside & open the hatch. Strap onto the ring or you may step on hydraulic fluid & slide off the wing.

I only served six years in the Marine Corps. God, those Air Men, Marines or Army handling behind the scenes that I dealt with....RESPECT!

I was a crew chief on C-141 assigned temporarily to another bas where i got work and fly on this, amazing that thing flies considering its size and when i flew home we had helicopters, tanks and other vehicles in the cargo area. I was tue spotter during a full speed engine run (stood in front with headphones on to watch that nothing hot sucked into engines when brought to full speed…what an experience we could only do one at a time and when that was humming ground was shaking like an earthquake! Truly an amazing aircraft
