Thanks for the knowledge. Just finished using general finishes water based dye on 2 bedrooms Oak trim that we removed layers of paint from using smart strip & citri strip on other parts & we nailed the color match to the old original bungalow look/ finish it has. Now to finish it off with some shellac.

Hi Friends, I am in need of some advice from an old pro. I am wanting to make my own deck and fence stain. I hear that people take a clear recycled oil from bulk dealers and mix with a homemade stain concentrate. 1 part concentrate to 4 parts of the clear oil. I cant seem to find a formula of ingredients for the concentrate. Thanks for your help.

the bookcase i wish to dye/stain will be in a small poorly ventilated room. i want to eliminate any strong odors so which is better, dye or stain?
