High dopamine turns off the default mode network

Gaming is such an edfective dopamine machine, any single thing you do gets immedaitely rewarded. We should structure more things this way, I wholeheartedly belive that technology like that really made us realise how common adhd really is. Its not lazyness when gaming gives you all the chemicals you need, of course you realise that stuff like learning and working is absolutely too boring for your brain.

Subtitled anime’s quiet everything too. Video games and anime are the only things I can hyper focus on and experience ‘quiet’.

And this is why I game a lot. I already deal with all kinds of bs and deal with loved ones that know I have adhd but seem to always wounder why things can be so difficult or from there point of view I’m being g lazy.

my friend have aspergers and i have adhd. we went into a store and the noises from the sliding door, people talking, laughing, on the phone, shooes squeeking, bags making noise, the beep from the cashier. he held his fingers into his ears and said how can you handle this? every sound is super sharp in my head and i cant ignore it. and i repplied i was too busy being focused on picking an ice cream out of their 70 different options and all the noises kinda just blended into one background noise that i could easy ignore. this video kinda reminded me of this.

Effing heck. This is so true I feel bitter. Because I remember rereading the same passage for the umpteen time trying to remember what I read and getting lost on the 2-3 sentence. That was before I found that Text-to-speech helps me concentrate or that I could “read” audiobooks.

My husband explained this exact thing to me 3 days ago. So interesting to see it in real life.

Oh, that Robert Sapolsky book. For anyone who cares, he is a now famous neuroendocrinologist and primatologist from Stanford who published a whole Stanford lecture series about human behavior and its biological underpinnings on YouTube. His latest book 'Determined' is about how free will is a horrible way to understand human behavior – a bit like how 'pull yourself together' is a horrible way to approach ADHD.
