I too am looking at just buying my vegetables vs. growing my garden. I have had 2 bad years in a, and 3 years ago was mediocre. I have spent too much money trying to raise my own vegetables in recent years. With the changing weather, I just can't manage it going forward and at 63, I am willing to say that it's okay after doing it for over 35 years. I will by from the next generation, it's their turn.😊

Happy anniversary, Jane and Mike! I love that you treated yourself to some different food items since you didn’t go out to a meal. Frugal living doesn’t mean we don’t treat ourselves sometimes😊

Selecting those treats and imagining the anniversary meal you will create with it must be more fun than ordering from a restaurant menu.

Happy Anniversary! The produce looks really good quality. Fresh and good size veg. I have an allotment, this year was not a productive year. Growing enough to eat from all year round isn't possible and not cost effective mostly. I do love going to my plot though, to unwind and be outside.
I hope you enjoyed the treats!

Wow, what amazing quality. I can honestly say that here in Nova Scotia, Canada, you would pay at least twice that for this amazing haul. I try so hard to cook from scratch with fresh ingredients, but it's increasingly so difficult!

This was perfect timing. Its time for September's "big shop" I'm heading to Trader Joe's as soon as it opens at 8am. Then tomorrow I'll go to the Farmer's Market to get what's in season. After that I'll order in whatever I need to round out pantry supplies.

August went great, only $157.52!!! (1 person, California)

Happy Anniversary, Jane & Mike! Excellent video! Which supermarket in France is the cheapest for shopping groceries, meat, vegetables, etc.? Also, how does Franprix compare with Monoprix?

Your French produce looks lovely and very fresh. You are definitely being frugal about your anniversary because you did not go out to a restaurant in the pouring rain (smart). Instead, you took maybe one half of the money you would have likely spent on that restaurant lunch and purchased exactly what you like to eat at home. I venture to say that for that lower amount of money you will eat even better food than you would have been given at a restaurant. In addition, there was no tax, and no tip whatsoever. And your food choices were pretty healthy and devoid of processing for the most part. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us, Jane. You have such a gift for explaining what you do and how and why you do it. Please keep up the great work! LMary
