Is it normal to still cry like a baby every time I see this clip? Can't hold it, it's a powerful scene. Love this!

I feel like this symbolizes Sophie finally letting go of her mom. She becomes a mother herself and is ready to think about Donna as a memory now. Such a heartbreaking but beautiful scene.

I don’t care who you are but I am a 19 year old boy and I cry at this scene every single time, it makes me miss my mother so bad...

The fact that Meryl Streep broke her "no sequels" rule and made a cameo in this tells you just how important the first one is to her

Anyone else notice that Donna has a butterfly necklace when she brings Sophie to be christened as a baby and Sophie is wearing a dress covered in butterflies when she brings her baby? I love the gentle nod to honor her mother

I love how at 2:48 Donna turns Sophie around for her to see she has a whole family to love her and protect her once Donna is completely gone. Like 'look honey, you're not alone and will never be. And I will always be with you."

This scene alone should have earned Meryl Streep an Oscar.

The fact that Meryl has said so many times that she sees Amanda as another daughter just makes this scene even more real and genuine 🥺

I knew going to the cinema to watch this movie would be sad for me. When the first movie came out I watched it with my mother. My mother died and I felt a part of me was missing and though I tried, I’ve never felt whole since. I went to watch this movie alone, but it felt like my mother was there with me. This scene I can relate to so much and I know that she’ll always be with me

The tears slipped when she started walking backwards to the door. The ugly sobbing started when she closed them

I cried like a baby when I first watched this, and I still cry. It's such a beautiful scene, and I wasn't expecting for Donna to show up, and that was my favorite part.

"Yes, I know I don't possess you, with all my heart God bless you"

When you couldn't accept the death of loved ones, this quote pierces deep that you shed some tears, and then you'll learn to let go, with a smile.

Somehow Lily Amanda and Meryl's voices have similarities. I shed tears each time 😢

This scene is brutal. I remember seeing this in theatres and I could hear nothing but sobs and sniffles in the entire room. Unbelievably, and heartbreaking-ly beautiful.
It was almost fitting that Streep does not do sequels, because it would have been an entirely different movie. The created a great story line for all the characters in lieu of Streep not fully being there, like the first one. Yes, she participated in a sequel, but not in a way where she was the main star, her younger self was. All she needed was this one scene to make her presence known. So powerful :)

when Donna reaches out for Sophie and says "nothing and no one can break this bond". It NEVER fails to make sob like a baby
