I got a 180hz after years of 60hz gaming. I didnt know moving a window on the desktop could look this smooth

The truth people don't want to hear is you need more than 300fps for a real 240hz experience. We also do not see in Hz our eyes do not shutter, it is continuous so we can tell a difference between 165 and 240hz but we can't actually process the images fast enough mentally for us to actually understand every frame.

This varies person to person as most fighter pilots exhibit substantial capability in this regard.

2 straight years of 120hz back to 60hz was the most jolting transition of my life i genuinely couldn’t believe i used to play on that

Honestly, I'm a huge fan of the 1440p 144Hz monitors. Great middle of the road.

The display tech makes a big difference too. Pixel response, ghosting, etc.

Upgrading from 60Hz to 144Hz was a game-changer for me. Panel types are definitely something to consider when choosing a monitor.

The scientific explanation as to why higher refresh rates are important is because the eye doesnt process visual data in "frames" like a computer, computers only do so because of technological limitations, rather your eyes process light continuously, and thus are susceptible to things like flicker rates. Basically, while you can only see flashing light at a technical 75hz on average, the brain processes visual information a lot faster than that, and so refresh rates like 120, 144, 165, etc. reduce the time where you have changes in that brightness, as well as the fact that when the computer is displaying visual data at those high frequencies, it's simultaneously processing your inputs at the same frequency, which decreases input delay and increases responsiveness.

I remember a couple of years ago people used to say human eyes can only see 24hz

I got super lucky and a homie found a beutifal mini LED 1440p 165hz monitor on Facebook for 150 dollars and it was a 500 dollar monitor at the time. We drove 3 hours into Alabama to get it and it's been amazing. Had it for about a year. Love it.

If you see actually 120-144 hz display are also a sweet spot for AAA players.
Edit: I used a 60 hertz 1080p display for some valorant and minecraft bedwars especially the bedwars a lot and it never feeled me to switch to a higher refresh rates monitor, somehow I got a 240 hz monitor as a gift, but really i played like a fire on a 60 hz display.
No matter how good your pc is no matter how good your monitor or peripherals are it's also apon how well are you skilled for your game or anything. 😁

at first glance I don't see the difference between 60hz and 120hz, but when I played on 120hz longer and switched to 60hz I saw the differences

Great argument you had there. Really put some new perspective on the peer reviewed studies.
